I'm at the plane controls My teachers used to say that 'I could fly harder' so if you want it driven reight then I'm your man
The News of the World didn't give a **** in the Miners strike when Maggies army were beating Miners up & rampaging through their communities. Windy's correct in saying the paper did it for their own selfish needs only. They don't give a sh.t about common decency.
RE: I'm at the plane controls So we have pilot and co-pilot. You two can sort out the technicalities. I'm the jumper then, which is really good because my school report said for P.E "quite good at jumping and landing and nothing else" Should I wear a badge or something? I'd like them to get the message. I've got a Take That badge which might work.
Somewhere in between. Your two examples aren't highly likely to cause reprisal killings. I always think the use of the phrase "where do we draw the line" is a cop-out from making difficult decisions. You struggle with it, draw the line and live with it. We draw lines every day. The publishing of those particular images was certainly not in the public interest. The press may currently have the legal right to publish whatever they like but I'd like to see that changed in cases where doing so could endanger life. Not a blanket rule, but certainly some kind of facility to say, "No, the cons outweigh the pros." Finding some middle ground and getting a reign on the gutter press is a far cry from living in China. .
I dont understand the Outcry at all. No one bats an eyelid when the cops steam into Football fans.
Maybe the Soldiers should have just shot them and be done with it, like any of the other forces in Iraq would have done.

This is like the UN innit? The Western countries thrashing it out, a couple of rogue states chucking in extreme views and the Isle of Wight telling knock-knock jokes in a pink tutu. .
Question How did they get these pictures?
Was a Screws of the World reporter sitting on the wall above them or
were they filmed internally and passed on?

RE: Somewhere in between. Publishing the names of paedophiles, murderers, gangland victims/torturers, perpetrators of football violence, sectarian killings, rapists and so on - all have chances of reprisal. Should the press remain quiet about them? How about Abu Hamza's hate preachings? Maybe they shouldn't have been made public 'cos that might mean mosques and Muslims get attacked? You either censor, or you don't.
havin' read stuff on this thread I think yer right mate. i mean surely we cant bang on about having freedom of speech for them cartoons if we cant have freedom of speech for summat like this? sauce for the goose and all that.
Oh and........... .....the "cons" being stuff like endangering lives etc. not political careers or corporate profits.
RE: Question some bloke from their division (or whatever its called) filmed it. i think i heard on the news he'd been arrested. dunno how film got to the paper.
RE: This is like the UN innit? Oh yeah Windy, typical U.N. mock and laugh at the small country. You wait until we find a more menacing looking uniform, then you'll have to listen.
Don't worry about the badge, I've got one It got a bit soiled at the Girls Aloud concert, but a wipe or two and you'll be fine. I might need a name badge myself mind so that the crew know who I am - My school report in '87 from the Maths teacher Mr Stringer simply read - 'who?' But then I never took much notice of what he said, Stringer was fat, with a beard full of flaky skin, and Stephen (thats a ph) Wilcox once saw him buying porn in a newsagents near school.
but then as the bloke said in our office, printing those cartoons led to folk dying but folk said they should be printed. freedom of speech and that. dunno its a tricky one.
Yeh anyone should be allowed to throw grenades and stuff at who they like, afterall they were just expressing an opinion.

Life just isn't that black and white. Each case would have to be taken on its own merit in court and the risks assessed. The fact is that there could well be reprisal killings as a result of THIS action. Of course it's nice to know everything but knowing about this is not worth the life of ONE soldier. You and I both know why the NOTW published and it's got **** all to do with freedom of information. The voluntary code isn't working. We all know the press think they're above the law but recently they've placed themselves above the last scrap of integrity they had left.
RE: Don't worry about the badge, I've got one My badge is fine, I'm not wearing 2 and you're not jumping. So stop getting ideas above your station. What use will your badge be? unless you were going to tell the paparazzi and get them to use a big lens and that. I'm not entirely sure I trust you now and Gaz is on the NOTWs side, so I reckon he's going to tamper with the co-ordinates or something. Why have you got a false moustache and a stupid accent btw. Are you really Sheik Scarfy?
Ok games up I was planning to sell our story to them afterwards. "I thought it was going to be all about a bit of flying and jumping - had no idea that IOWT and Gaz were going to be (sordid activity too depraved to mention in a family newspaper) etc etc "
