Things I actually would miss about Barnsley if I left

Since we moved away from Barnsley about 6 or 7 years ago to Italy, I must say that there's not many things I miss - apart from Oakwell of course. We manage to get back for about 2 or 3 months every year so manage to take in a game or two!! But I'm afraid the town itself doesn't match up to living out here.

 

I've not missed living in Barnsley one single day since I left and don't feel any pull at all when I visit. I know others feel very different, but its not a a home to me, just a place I was born and lived my early life.

 

Ditto I guess, but you always have fond memories from when you grew up, also not so fond memories. I arrived in Dodworth at the tender age of 5, and I remember my first day at school when a lad came up to me at playtime and said " ah tha laiking" well I thought he was from another planet, didn't have a clue what he was saying, total foreign language. He must have thought I was a complete idiot as I just stared at him....

 

When I was young I had very dark hair and quite brown skin. The first words a kid said to me at Junior school was 'Ar thai a Paki?'
