Very happy. I thought we could get dragged into a relegation battle before the season started & I no longer think that. The games we lost are all on paper difficult games. The only game I thought he got his tactics wrong were the second half against Wycombe. I want another forward & a RWB signed with Leya Iseka & Helik departing to fund it. Get Jordan Williams in the back 3 bringing the ball out & sweeping up whilst a natural RWB can hopefully chip in with some assists. A top half finish would be good this season & then hopefully kick on next season.
Too early to draw definite conclusions but everything about him I find encouraging. When we play poorly he says exactly that. When the players don’t follow his instructions he tells us that. When they got old manned against Wycombe and capitulated in the second half - they were his words. He knows what the issues are. He’s working to sort them. He knows what he lacks in the squad and even with them you can see improvement but most importantly a gradual change in attitude and increase in confidence. There is no way we would come from behind twice against the league leaders under several of our previous managers. Even had we conceded a third and lost on Saturday, you’d still have to be impressed at the spirit and application shown to get back into the game. Said this before and I stick by it - even without any more players I don’t see us being close to relegation. I think we’ll see a right wing back and a centre forward come in this week. Not necessarily brilliant ones, certainly cheap ones, but I think we’ll get some through the door. Possibly losing Helik and maybe Styles. If we lost Styles I thing we need wing backs on both sides. Jordan Williams has shown Duff (as a lot of us already pointed out) that he’s much better as a right sided centre back rather than a wing back. If Williams plays wing back now it’ll out of necessity not choice.
Speaks very well. Form has been patchy but a few promising signs. I think it will take him a while to put his stamp on the team but will get there if given time. we are absolutely skint, so he’s got a really tough job. That said, so is most of the league.
I agree. However, even though we lost I was a little impressed that he realised the first half tactic wasn't going to bring us anything and we needed to try something different. Yes, we still lost but under too many previous managers we would have lost without attempting to change things to get back into the game. I'm happy enough with him so far. We have better team spirit and appear to want to play matches rather than just go through the motions.
Not got much too wrong this season . The way he's turned some off the players round from last season is remarkable . The winning spirit goes a hell of a long way
I said about Ismael(sorry for the spelling), if the board won't spent then the mark of a good manager is to get the best out of the players he has at his disposal, I think Duff is what we need.
If I could be bothered to find it, I'd bump the post where someone wanted him sacked after the Lincoln game. He's doing a grand job.
We've lost 3 league games. 2 of those were 1 goal losses in the first 3 games when he'd just come in, at Plymouth (1st) and Derby (7th). The Wycombe game I'm treating as an anomaly as the goals they scored they miss 19 times out of 20 on any other day - and to that effect they've been gash since. We've beaten Wednesday away (imperious at home in the last 12 months and obvs our nemesis usually), trounced Cambridge away (4 wins out of 4 at home before we played them) and today have beaten a team who'd only lost 1 out their first 9. In summary, I think he's doing a terrific job
It was bumped a few days ago on another post, because I recalled people wanting him gone too and someone else linked it... I think Duff will be one of the best managers we've had in a long, long time. Doing absolutely brilliant, even winning when not playing particularly well, grinding it out, love it.
The more you read the more you have to love it. Shows players care to be that way with one another. I hope the shower wasn't on
Sticks & stones. & of course he is. Anyone not aiming for a bigger opportunity, has no business being in football. That's the nature of the beast..
Top appointment is Michael Duff.....top marks to the board for a great signing......with a bit of luck this will make up for the previous mistakes of the last 2 managers.....onwards n upwards COYR!,,
