It is bizarre, you're right. Not necessarily the club's fault but it is strange that when there are 4 games, 3 to be played on sunday that barnsley and the police don't have the power to move the game to one of the 3 sunday slots.

    This is all nonsense

When we were in the Premiership last time, we did not sell our complete allocation of season tickets. Now you are suggesting that the club would sell a lot more than in 1997????

    is it

Look at the attendances for previous games of similar stature Everton 30k+ Liverpool 29k+ etc So we can take 25k to cardiff but cant manage 20k at home against a top team, a game from a wembley appearance??

i'm not saying they will, i'm saying they could.

In the premier we were playing big teams every week but now we have been away from the big time for so long that when we get a big team people want to see it.

Compare it to fish and chips. Everyone likes fish and chips don't they but the chippy doesnt sell out every night because theyre always available. If the chip shops in tarn only sold them on one day every 5 years there would be queues a mile long for them.

    poor analogy i guess

    oh and

Barnsley Football Club examined the possibility of giving Chelsea supporters tickets in the West Stand which would have allowed Barnsley fans to sit in the North Stand. However, the capacity of the West Stand Lower would not have fulfilled the Football Association's regulations regarding ticket distribution and would have necessitated moving around 300 season ticket holders. Following discussions with South Yorkshire Police regarding safety and segregation it has been decided that Chelsea supporters will be seated in the North Stand.

So according to an official statement not imposed by SY police otherwise they would have said it.

Also funny how other teams have been able to bend the 15% rule but somehow we cannot.

Sorry not sure of all the ins and outs, all I know is that the west stand was considered. One thing I would say is that if a (relatively) new stand that's purpose built to segregate fans is out of the question then would the police want to segregate the rickety old west stand? (Im just guessing now!).

2 friends of mine here darn sarf

An Arsenal and a Liverpool fan have asked me if I can get them tickets in our end for the cup game - told them they will have to wait - but they are serious - no way would they want to come to see us play Colchester in the league but the magic of the cup.... We will sell out

I did consider the west stand being older but on the face of it i'd say the west stand looks safer to segregate than the north.
The west has a proper wall between the two sets of fans at the back (i believe the north has a gate too), but while the north is only segregated by a piece of netting laid on the seats in the stand, the west has the directors box area in the upper tier and the tunnel and dugouts in the lower tier that effectively turn the west stand into two stands with a gap between them.
For that reason I think that the west would be able to be segregated into north and south with less effort than halving the north stand which just leaves the question of whether giving chelsea just the north end of the west was put to the FA or not :)

Thanks for your replies by the way

Just got clarification - Apparently not the meetings you go to but with the Safety Advisory Group (Steve Thomas, Andy Brain).

    Furthermore

    since its still here

Is the number of police required inversly proportional to the number of Chelsea supporters in attendance for some reason?

Because as far as I was aware most trouble at football matches occurs outside the ground and I would have thought the numbers of police required would be proportional to the number of likely away supporters.

I really cant be arsed with the point but IMHO the decision to give them 6000 tickets is largely a commercial one..i.e.

Give chelsea 6000 tickets 90% chance of selling them all.
Give North stand to BFC 60% chance of selling them all.

Split the north stand 500 "wasted" seats and more stewards.

I'ld do some comical photoshop work to lighten the mood and make it clear but I dont have the time

    So is the kids one

£6 or £7. NOW £15 many parents will let kids watch it on BBC leaving spare seats for adults or £25 units as we are probably known. Yes it is good to make money but not by penalising the very families you have been trying to recruit all season.

Move the North Stand Turnstiles to the corner near the East Stand

Problem solved. Requires some work but would be paid for by gate revenue.

Would only ever happen with a Prem promotion, but it would mean away fans could just walk down grove St to the West Turnstiles. They'd obviously be some kind of barrier as you get to the Ponte End Turnstile.

there are turnstyles for the north stand there anyway

it has two sets, one next to the west stand and one next to the east stand and the west stand doesnt need a barrier behind it really as there wasnt one when sheffield wednesday and sunderland (plus others) were walking down grove street last season

    Are they DOG turnstiles?

Anyway no reason why home fans couldn't have used North stand V Chelsea then. Must have been ticket allocations.

Been offline for a course so just catching up
