Bought them from a sweet shop at the bottom of Gypsy Lane . My family emigrated to Lincolnshire November 62 . Thanks Dr Beeching . My other sweetshop was Mrs Dentons on Kingsway where my Mum's parents lived . Happy days .
Happy days indeed. Long gone memories of times spent in sweet shops with your pocket money. I know I still have picture cards but not full sets unfortunately. Now that would make them quite valueable. Sets include Second World War, Flags of the World and American Civil War which you got bank notes in the packet. Don't think I have any of the conferderate money. There were others, was it Outer Limits about space. And Man From Uncle. I really must dig them out and have a look.
Thanks a lot for posting this. I haven't seen it yet but I gave my dad a heads up and he has. My grandad was from Coatbridge and his cousin played for Third Lanark https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobby_Kerr_(footballer,_born_1929) My grandad himself was a talented centre half and played for the West of Scotland school boys and turned down professional terms. He ended up moving south to work in the Sheffield steel works, met my grandma, started a family, and chose Barnsley as the team to take my dad to watch as a boy. My dad and grandad took me to my first game in the late 80s. I haven't taken my 5 year old yet but I'm trying to grow her interest in football. Anyway, the first result I always look out for after Barnsley's is Albion Rovers. Which for most of my life has been a victory for the opposition. There record makes BFC look like Barcelona.
Great story mate. Yeah Albion Rovers rarely win but you must take your hat off to those who turn up to watch them. Couple of years ago I was through watching united play Airdrie in the cup. We had dinner and a drink in Coatbridge pre game. Folk even old women coming up to us wish us all the best. The hatred between Albion Rovers fans and Airdrie is as intense as anywhere else. BTW I will be taking my 8 year old grand daughter to Tannadice on Saturday for her 1st game v Arbroath. I'm really looking forward to it.
