He didn't jump ship. He actually helped the club by walking away, and saving us money on his contract. I can't and won't condone the challenge on Iain Hume. But let's get the facts right
For me the Hume incident ruined everything, I always liked him. Thought he was a decent player. He Lost his way a little in our relegation season, but in the main was a good player.
I had a read of the www.chedevans.com website and even over a year on from being found guilty the lass he cheated on is still standing by him
He isn't hated because of what he did in a Barnsley shirt, he is hated because of what he did in a Sheff Utd shirt and what happened afterwards. I can't think of any player who is so hated by fans who once treated him as a hero but he only has himself to blame for this complete turnaround in fortunes.
Warnock is one of the most irritating men in football and I want to smash the tele to bits when he gives post match interviews but he doesn't even register on the hate scale when compared to Morgan.
Totally agree with all of that. Personally, I don't hate Chris Morgan. I don't even dislike him. But I really wish he hadn't elbowed Hume.
Seconded. The challenge on Hume was awful and, in the context of the game he was fired up having ran the length of the pitch to get a Reds player booked, so we were in no doubt that he deliberately stuck his elbow in Hume's direction. We were all angry because he should have been sent off, we were angry because we didn't win the game and we were angry when the linesman gave a penalty from an incident he couldn't see under pressure from the United bench. Then what happened to Hume afterwards made it even worse, as did the way that United handled it in the media. We all know what Morgan could be like on the pitch. He trod the line many times for us. And the injury to Hume was awful. But whereas he certainly seemed to throw his elbow with intent, there is no way that he meant to cause the injury he did, unlike, say, the Michael Brown foul on Butterfield or the Roy Keane foul on Haaland, where they only had one thing in mind. Furthermore, Morgan is a nice bloke and I've seen him interviewed on Sky Sports since he left us telling them how great it was that we had been promoted, as he was still a Reds fan. He was the one Reds player who really stood up during the admin period, leaving his pregnant wife in the car whilst he attended the supporters meeting. It really is about time the anger and vitriol aimed against him personally was calmed down. Of course, I'm not suggesting that we should start hoping that the team he currently manages does well!
you need to move on lad... listen to the greatest rhythm guitar player of the last 30 years and dance to barnsley staying up
I am sure that Chris Morgan is basically a decent bloke ... Strikes me as a family man. BUT What grates with me is The lack of apology The attitude of Sheffield United The lack of protection from the Football authorities All this coupled with the hero status he seems to have amongst their fans, and them making excuses for him, to the point of blaming Hume, Barnsley, our medical staff, the hospital etc. The other day I had a Blades fan telling me how Morgan is a Blade through and through ... Made me want to hurl. He nearly killed a player, all "part of the game". Oh, and he uses our street as a cut thru from Penistone to Sheffield at school run time. Grrr.
This woman is everything that is wrong with society- happy to lose all her self respect for a bit of money. She even admits he cheated on her, even on that basis if she valued herself in any way she should be out the door, I don't believe she believes he's innocent I'm certain she wants him out of jail so he can get earning again and she can get back to buying stuff. Awful role model for the younger generation- marry a footballer let him treat you like dirt but its ok because you get nice things. Things like this take me back.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zk69e1Vcmvg
Sorry to disagree Jay..the man is a disgrace..if I can fathom how to post the pics they show him committing an almost identical assault on James Hayter a few months after the thug did Hume..in my view he should have got a custodial sentence(fortunately Hayter only sustained a broken nose) http://bbs.barnsleyfc.org.uk/album.php?albumid=15&attachmentid=1504 http://bbs.barnsleyfc.org.uk/album.php?albumid=15&attachmentid=1505 http://bbs.barnsleyfc.org.uk/album.php?albumid=15&attachmentid=1506 http://bbs.barnsleyfc.org.uk/album.php?albumid=15&attachmentid=1507 The final pic shows our hero looking concerned....wonder what he's thinking PS if you notice as with the Hume incident..he gets the elbow in while the ball is still a distance away
He is a thug - should never have been allowed on a football pitch again Came within a whisker of commiting manslaughter on the pitch If he was not ex red he would be vilified for life on here
I've no problem with anyone disagreeing mate. You're perfectly entitled to your own opinion. I don't even know if I'm right. I don't know what was going through Chris Morgan's mind that day. He may be as malicious and dangerous as many people believe. I just don't know.
To me the fact that he's from Tarn makes it even worse, the worst day I've ever had in football was the Sheff U away game after the Hume incident when a stadium with thousands of Blades scum(and I use that word deliberately, and not lightly, and also not to describe all Blades)were singing 'there's only one Chris Morgan'...after a decent lad was left fighting for his life and career..I was dejected at the state of the human race. The relegation party of 2010 was particularly sweet..and tbh if they never came back into our league, particularly if he is still associated with them I would be more than happy.
look at the Hayter photos Jay..that was only a few months after he did Hume.I was so incensed about it I still have the original video somewhere..the incidents are carbon copies,it's Morgans trademark..I seem to remember someone putting a catalogue of them on youtube..it might be worth a search..the FA certainly should.
It wasn't good was it, but where was the outrage when he was elbowing people when he was wearing a Barnsley shirt?
