Why would we, on behalf of supporters, ‘want Conway out’ with no viable alternative? Imagine campaigning for something that could risk our future even more. It wouldn’t be sensible right now and without exploring different avenues first. The Q&A is the start of that.

The only people currently connected to the club that have any experience with takeovers (excluding existing and previous owners or directors) is the Supporters Trust.

Obviously not me, as I was too busy maxing my credit card buying bricks in the wall and putting a name on my seat, but during admin they had to actively engage and try to find someone to get us out of the mess we were in. It’s a hugely complicated process and leads you down a million dead ends before you finally realise there’s a Patrick Cryne that’s serious, willing and able. If you want a supporter led campaign to force a takeover, then regardless of what you think of BFCST, you put your agenda against them to the side and actively engage.

You’re obviously a supporter of something protest or campaign wise, which is completely fine. I get it. There’s some poor decisions being made at the moment. But I do feel like you’re being a bit of an apologist for this group in terms of their intent and behaviour. Any purchase of the football club has got to be a c. £20 million transaction. Do you think a Facebook group that censors fair, reasonable, and respectful comments, and basically says ‘we’re kicking out any club arse lickers or trouble makers that don’t agree with us’, is a professional way to front a £20 million buy out?

All I know is that the reason for the ‘front man’ being involved was to setup the Facebook group on behalf of the investors. He hasn’t met this group or person wanting to takeover the club, hasn’t spoken to them, doesn’t know who they are, and doesn’t know how they plan to complete the takeover.

But he does know that it’s going to happen very quickly and he’s essentially saying that anyone who doesn’t back the campaign will be on the wrong side of history when it happens.

I use the term investors here loosely. Their initial statement actually mentioned an alternative ‘ownership model’. I honestly believe they think it’s as easy as just asking PMG to step aside an they can walk right in.

All my posts in that group were saying, and Gally’s posts as well, were that you can’t expect everyone to blindly follow something that encourages protests and boycotts and the handing out of posters - unless you provide much more details.

Every club says this but we’ve got some of the best supporters in the country. Loyal, very forgiving for honest mistakes that are dealt with respectful, and willing to be there for the club even when life might not be a bed of roses.

You only have to look at the Minor’s strike, going in to admin, and COVID to see supporters rallying to support the football club and community. The fair questions and points we made in that group were made because nobody wants the football club at risk and nobody is being told if this new ownership option is even close to being credible. Wouldn’t be much of a Supporters’ Trust board if we didn’t try and get as much info as possible.

If we’re in league one for any length of time we won’t have a 8/10, 000 fan base for long .

Unfortunately the answer to that is simple in that it lies with the credibility of who is asking.
At the risk of blowing smoke up yours and Gallys arse, the original poster(who I believe is on here), with no disrespect meant is not as well known as you two guys.
When seeing you both ask coherent and reasonable questions and suggesting there are other credible options coupled with your Supporters club connection and having seen what you did with the video, it starts to raise credible questions in others heads. Not something they will want to encourage.

I'm not saying you should be. But the point I'm trying to make is that fans don't need to wait for the Trust if they're unhappy. As to me personally, I'd like to feel I'd campaigned against the owners before we get dumped into administration, because believe me if that is what's best for PMG investments as a whole, that will happen. Despite what @redrain may post companies are happy to go bust and then set up again under a slightly different name, there's no real deterent to doing so

@Gally I've stayed as far away as possible from it. I've got no inclination to even pretend that a group set up on Facebook has the means, idea or desire to take over our Football Club. It's an ego trip for some internet warriors - and that's without reading a single post.

So, PMG decide to put Barnsley FC into administration. Can you imagine the holy uproar, the fear, the anger and venom that would aimed at them from the other football clubs they own? They'd be pariahs in the industry, no one would touch them with a bargepole and anyone they're already in bed with would instantly want out.

PMG don't want admin, they want profit.

Or am I over simplifying it?! :D

Historically it tends to take something pretty monumental, for a successful campaign against ownership. How many times do you see owners 'driven out' by fans, in this country? West Ham, Man United, Newcastle are all recent examples, but what have they actually achieved? West Ham and United, nothing (as yet). The owners are still there. Newcastle may claim some success, but not really. They've sold out to Saudi Arabia and Mike Ashley has made a fortune.

Blackpool and the Oyston's might be the nearest recent example. Look how acrimonious that had to get, and how long it took, for success to come. Very isolated case. Hearts are another possible example. Forced by admin.

We're dealing with people who are not emotionally attached to the Club. They're not going to be forced out by pressure groups. They're not just going to hand the Club back through some sense of altruism. They faced opposition at Nice and moved on. But only because it made financial sense. They made a fortune on the sale. And Nice now have Jim Ratcliffe. Ineos. Eew.

I totally agree that no one needs supporters trust permission to launch a campaign. Agree 100%. But they're going to need a proper plan which appeals to the financial interest of the current owners. I personally cannot see how that comes out of a Facebook group.

@Marc I'd argue that your examples aren't great ones either. I don't think fans forced them out, I think that they sold when they saw it right to sell.

And I wonder if the Oyston's hadn't been found guilty would they have sold either.

You've mentioned admin quite a few times Helen, what is this based on? As I understand it, we managed to stay financially stable during the last 24 months and I've no reason to believe that's suddenly gone to the wall. There is a huge difference between not having much money in the coffers for potential transfers and going into admin, as well we all know.

I don't think we are at the stage yet where we need to start shaking buckets outside the ground - I think we are miles from that. And I don't have the wool pulled over my eyes. As for 'waiting for the Trust', I think the Trust are asking very credible questions in order to gain further understanding before they back anything. If they received a response such as, 'this is the investor, he/she wants to remain anonymous but will meet you privately to discuss' or something along those lines (or even just a general 'this is how much they've got and this is the plan'), then they would see it carries some weight.

At present, the info being provided is incredibly flimsy and isn't enough to take action as a viable alternative, in my opinion. Also, the group itself is doing a fine job of dividing and alienating large swathes of the fanbase already. And if we did go bust, the owners would be out of here without question. No way would they fund a grassroots club starting again from the ground up; their global reputation as PMG would be tarnished forever in the world of football, and surely they wouldn't have the desire to stick around while we try and work our way up from the Northern Counties East League, or whatever. So, why are we talking about admin?

Well that was an interesting read - must admit I havent really been paying too much attention to this Conway Out group but it doesnt look very good

It seems to me that their position is
    1. We have someone who wants to take over the club but we cant tell you who it is
    2. He/she/They have viable plans to run the club which will be much better than the current owners, but we cant tell you what they are
    3. For all this to happen we just need PMG to leave and hand over the club for nothing

Please can someone in on this correct me if I have got something wrong in those three key points

I wonder if the backer is called Baldrick -perhaps not as even his cunning plans had more merit

I'm running through this in my mind and looking at potential benefits of busting the club intentionally and I'm struggling to think of any.

Trouble in't Conway Out camp? This 'Martin Nettleton' character doesn't appear to be a member of the group any more, his name is 'greyed out' when tagged. Meanwhile some posts have had commenting turned off, including a group statement from Luke Goddard, which has now mysteriously disappeared.
