Could never understand people's bitterness towards Dennis. He presided over the best years in the clubs history and always ran the club prudently until we tasted the good life of the Prem. Like everyone else, his head was turned by this and he took an ill fated gamble to try and get us back there. As we all know, it backfired catastrophically but hey....if Darren Barnard had scored that penalty at Wembley who knows?
ITV digital's collapse didn't help either. I'd welcome him back to the club in the future. Our current 'board' is not exactly in good shape...

I loved him JD, sad what happened in the end. Good to see him still attending though.

It's the fact that he put us into admin without consulting the shareholders. BFC were only £2 million in debt and owned about £10 millionsworth of land. All he had to do was sell a car-park and the debt was paid off. Doyle raised the money to buy the club by mortgaging some of that land so why didn't he do the same without putting us through the mire. He'd had it good all the time he was chairman but at the first sign of trouble, he bailed out. Premier League years were more to do with Danny Wilson and the team than Dennis.

Correct Simon. There was something very dodgy about how quickly we went into Admin, when our debts were small compared to some clubs

Were we actually in debt when we went into admin? - I thought that the board wanted to use the overdraft, but the bank (Natwest?) cancelled it leaving us with no access to money....

As I understand it, the bank pulled the plug on the clubs loan facilities after they were approached to fund a share rights issue that would have raised £2million quid for the club (although Patrick Cryne originally agreed to underwrite this but that's another story). I'm not sure he had the opportunity to consult anyone. Up until that point, they believed they would be ok based on the assets they had which equated to Dyer, Barker and another player who's name escapes me but the transfer market died along with the ITV digital deal. They'd just turned down a bid for £500K for Bruce Dyer as well.

Let's be fair, it would never have happened if the football league lawyers had tied up the ITV Digital deal properly.

Forced in by NatWest, not helped by the train set owner.
