I’m 42 and never once seen us in the 4th tier. So you’re right. It would indeed be very new, to me. As it happens, we’re 5th in tier three.
I certainly have but veer towards more happy clapper than doom and gloom. I've been around since 1970 and remember the old 4th division days. I agree that we've all criticised aspects of the club and will do again but only because we want the best for BFC and the town as a whole. Owners come and go but we're Reds till the end
78 times in the 2nd tier, 25 in league 3, an 10 in league 4, twice as long in tier 2, an dont forget the Prem. I must agree with you, i feel were destined to see more of tier 3 over the coming yrs.
I'm 55 and my first ever game as a 10 year old was the 4th division promotion game vs Grimsby. The only game I ever saw us in the 4th tier.
Must be great to have that at your disposal. “I remember when we were in the old fourth division.” Closest I’ve got is “I remember when I had to watch Scott Wiseman captain us in a 6-4-0 formation.”
Chatted to a few Argyle fans at Rotherham on Friday - they really rated Cosgrove and thought they may have been back in for him in the summer. Surprised he is so inconsistent for us.....
Strange, but it happens all the time. I remember Torres at Liverpool, and then at Chelsea; chalk and cheese.
When I first went to Oakwell we were in D4. We didn’t score for my first 6 games. I genuinely believed that Jim Iley was called Jim Iley-Out. We are far away still from those days but we need to stay there.
I've been watching them since 1968 and have seen them what was then the old 4th division. It was not great but football has changed so much since. The vast amounts of money thrown at (mainly to the Premier league it has to be said) has changed the game forever and not always for the good.
When did you first go to Oakwell, 1960 for me. I remember a good many seasons in the lower two tiers. But still loved it.
I first went in 1961....... We finally got into the second tier in 1981. So TWENTY years I devoted while watching them in the bottom two tiers. I think I have earned the right to comment from time to time. You still have not said when you first went?
I'm going to try something here in the hope it backfires We definitely won't go up while Collins is in charge
I was stood on the corner in-between the ponty and West Stand , 17 yrs old ,it was rammed. This may still hold the record for highest attendance in the old 4th Division now EFL 2. Someone can confirm or dismiss . This was the start of the Barnsley FC rise from the ashes. Fair play to Mr Dennis who had the ambition to bring in Alan Clarke and Sir Norman.
I missed the promotion winning goal because me and my dad were half way up the hill to catch the last bus back to South Elmsall.
was in the brewery stand with my dad then went on the pitch in front of the west stand when the players came out to acknowledge the fans at full time. Was hooked from that moment.
Would appear I’m one of the more younger ones on here. Started going around the early 2000s so that means I’ve consistently seen us as a championship side (mostly struggling but staying up) or a top league 1 team. With the financial power in the game I’d say we are still around that level but it could easily be leaning more towards league 1 in the next few years I’m afraid to say. Hopefully we’ll keep punching above our weight for many more years.
I think it’s very simple. 1. We are not a big enough team to demand sacking a manager whilst occupying a L1 playoff spot. 2. The team is not good enough to occupy a position in the automatic promotion spot. So, we aren’t ‘really’ underperforming. Playing well? No. Is Collins a good coach long term - maybe? Maybe not. I don’t think it’s really his fault that whatever defence he puts out makes mistakes. Or that we didn’t sign a CB that could win headers until Jan. Or that the one we did got injured. It is what it is. But I don’t buy into the ‘short terminism’ of modern day football. For me you have to give a new coach at the very very least a season (aside from obvious exceptions Shopp etc.)
