    Just found out that the Promotion to the Scottish Premier League is based on this principle. 4th in the Sc Championship play 3rd (over two legs), the winner plays 2nd (over two legs) and the winner of that will play whoever finished 2nd bottom in the SPL.

    Currently Rangers (3rd placed team) have beaten Queen of the South (4th placed team), and now play Hibs. The winner of that will play Motherwell for a place in the SPL next year.

    i cant believe some fans are still moaning that the 3rd place team deserve to go up, and that the play offs are unfair.
    this was the case after the first few years when they were introduced, but no team can use that excuse anymore nearly 30 years on.

    It's actually worse than that for PNE, They've been in the Playoffs 9 (Yes Nine!) times before and never been promoted.
    1989, 1994, 1995, 1999, 2001, 2005, 2006, 2009 & 2014.

    3 of those were Playoff final defeats: 1994, 2001 & 2005.

    So if they fail this time that'll be 10 unsuccessful Playoff attempts. Gasp!

    and Only once before has the top placed team won the playoffs.

    2008 - Hull, Donny & Stockport.

    Will this be the 2nd time this has happened?
