They need to define "official acts" and they need to do it rapidly. Trump is already taking it as anything he did while holding office and his lawyers are trying to get the hush money conviction thrown out... based on the fact that he sent some emails about it to Cohen while president and they were used in court. Essentially trying to get off because he was "immune" for a tiny event in the aftermath of a crime committed before he was president. By Trumps definition Biden could have him executed by the secret service tomorrow and face no consequences. Immunity was designed entirely to protect standing officials from being unable to make key decisions due to the threat of personal prosecution. Eg ordering military action. Not to get away with paying off mistresses. It emphasises how dumb US law is really that these clearly defined rules can be manipulated in courts while the judges are appointed along political lines.
Very much agree with that sentiment. What is worrying here is that the tories behind the scenes are very much influenced and "advised" by people who also have interest in America and either do or have advised Republican politicians. The tufton street mob is extremely opaque, especially with where its funding comes from for all the "think tanks" that incessantly flood our media with nonsense, fear and bias. So far you could just about argue that our outdated systems and conventions stood up to abuse. In that they didn't break completely. The legal sector was abused repeatedly to invoke ire in the electorate. The Mail especially calling them traitors for merely interpreting the laws laid down by parliament itself... and endangering them for doing so. In a way we have to be thankful that Johnson didn't want to go the lengths of Trump to secure his position, and that the tory party of the day had enough people in it to bring him down. if you had someone with the destruction of Trump... I'm not sure they would stand up to such duress, even if we aren't presidential in our system.
