RE: Ref Had A Good Game

Not argueing either pal. Paul D told it how it was near the start of this thread. At said incident, our players didn't complain and our fans barely made a noise about it.

RE: his feet were in the area-so no offence committed nt

    Paul D,

As a goalkeeper since the age of 8. I personally think you are wrong on this.

If the goalkeepers feet are in the area, and the ball is out. Are you saying this isn't a penalisation? So, ok, if the goalkeepers feet are out, and the ball is in the area ie the goalkeeper slides horizontally grabs the ball and his feet are outside, is this classed as a foul?

If the ball is out of the area, its out of the area. No questions. Dosn't matter if his feet are in. It's a foul.

What you are saying would be like saying, 'If his feet are over the goal line, but the ball isn't - it's a goal'.

    Surely?

No idea. Definitely not at work, though. Honest.

I side with this version of the ruling. Body parts can be out, but the ball must be in.

    Also Gaz/Paul,

"If the goalkeeper's hand and the ball are together, outside the penalty area line, then the goalkeeper has deliberately handled the ball outside the penalty area. Deliberately handling the ball outside the penalty area is an infringement by the goalkeeper that would normally be punished by a direct free kick"

Now, that is from a US based soccer website - with rules for up coming referees. But still, I've always followed the rules that way, being a goalkeeper and all.

It has to be correct, the goalkeeper can't have his feet in the area and grab the ball from outside. That would be cheating as the attacker running towards goal would be at a disadvantage. If the goalkeeper can stand in his area and grab the ball from outside, and the attacker can only use is feet - that's unfair.

Paul D isn't always correct! Don't know why we argue about this. The ref saw what happened and bottled it - no argument. These things happen - we were "lucky" with the pen on Saturday. Tends to even itself out. (Except against Wednesday of course!!)

just to clarify my view of this

it was miles away behind a post (N) but I didn't see him pick it up off the floor-if so it would be a handball outside area-however I thought he caught it on the bounce with feet inside so no handball-I stand to be corrected by those with beter than 20/20 vision

My view was that it was close, but if it was outside the upper tier would have made way more noise about it and the players would have been going to the ref, instead of simply getting on with it.

    Good man.

I was bang in line with it, in nose bleed territory.

But it stands to reason if you look at my other posts.

Anyways, it's behind us now - no point in arguing.

Front row of upper stand dead in line. Ball picked up from the ground. It was beyond the line. Should have been a foul. Ref bottled it. Last post on the subject? (I hope)

RE: What are the rules Jay or aqnyone ? nt

If the ball is out of the area and the 'keeper handles it it's a foul, if it's in the area it's not. Doesn't matter one jot where his feet are. It's a pretty simple rule.

Fair play for being so honest!

I wasn't 100% sure at the time, but I had a good feeling it looked outside. Nevermind though, might not have had a massive impact, we still would've struggled to get any sort of decent shot on goal
