If she'd called them a Japs Eye then it would be considered offensive.

See...now we have a c0ck thread too. All we need now is somebody to make an announcement and we're all happy;)

I always call them japs, but not in a bad way, they don't Evan take offence to it either. Too many doo gooders in Britain! Owe you can't say that you can't say this. Gets me quite mad

An insulting and racist method of refering to Japanese people of the Empire of Japan.

    From the Urban Dictionary.

And I agree, no need to call someone a "Jap", just say "Japanese"

    Is it f.uck racist.

I suppose all the people who say it is always have a Chinese takeaway instead of a Chinky

No idea personally. Depends if the Japanese find it offensive and for what reason. If they do find it offensive, because they believe it's used in a derogatory manner, or it was used in a derogatory way in the past, or used to discriminate, then it is, if they don't then it's not.

The people who a word is used to describe get to decide if the word itself is offensive, not the people using it. So I don't think any of us can tell you, unless there are any Japanese people who post on this forum.

I don't know, but I suspect some Japanese would find it offensive and some wouldn't.

Always referred to getting a Chinese. It's 2 syllables just the same so I don't see the need to use a different word.

I'd be tempted to say you're correct, I can't see this as a racist term. Some may not like it but that doesn't make it racist.

Just an abbreviation not an insult like Brit etc. Though I guess it does depend how you say it.

    Are you serious?

I think the only time I've heard the word 'chinky' to refer to a chinese takeaway in the past ten years was on Peep Show, in that episode about how Mark's friend was a racist.

Up until getting together with r lass, I always referred to a chinese takeaway as a 'chinky'.

    She calls it a chinese.

She calls a takeaway a 'takeout' as well. And people over here pronounce plaster with an extra 'R'. As in, plarster. Weirdos.

What was the norm 20 to 30 years ago is now thought of as, racist , offensive , xenophobic, homophobic you name it

Some people refer to it as being "a bit Pearl Harbour" when it's cold/nippy outside.
