RE: I would guess
I do not begrudge Barnsley fans who only go to 2-3 games a year chosing this as one of those to attend. As an ST holder I would happily pick up a ticket for my brother who only goes once in a blue moon but still follows the reds on teletext and radio every Saturday. It's a myth that every ticket not sold to an ST holder or someone with 3/4 match day stubs will be a Man Utd fan. It's a myth that many people are happy to buy into as it allows a round of 'I'm more of a fan than you' to be played.

RE: I would guess You completely missed the point. I'm very happy for you that you don't begrudge your brother a ticket. But it's not your money that is going down the swanny with 3 rows of empty seats and additional police costs. Once more Barnsley fans seem very happy spending other peoples money! This is a economics decision. Whoever buys these tickets are unlikely to become season ticket holders on the back of it. So why incur additional costs of extra policing for the sake of fans who generate little revenue for the club.
I think you miss a point I want more people in the ground supporting my team, therefore I advocate allocating a greater proportion of the stadium to the home fans. How much is it to buy back thegoodwill that the extra seats sold to away supporters has cost us? When you consider that we will have budgeted to perhaps get to the 3rd round in this competition the loss of 500 seats (a wild guess) is not a big deal. Alternatively I could just say, I'll get my ticket and it's tough luck on anyone who can't.

SYP Have said before they will not accept a split stand for what they class as a category A game. If we did split the stand, we probably know what the policing/stewarding costs would have to rocket to.
and we just accepted it while our neighbours down the road (and practically every other club) said no and insisted that the stand be split
RE: and we just accepted it Aye and it will be hard enough beating the best side in the country without them spending half the game attacking an end full of just their fans.
Well said Pete. Even at the extra cost for policing it will be worth it to see a north stand half full with our own. It would be excellent positive promotion by us as well. We have Sky money coming in now so it's not like we can't afford to do it.
again more people willing to spend other peoples money! The main site is full of ideas of how to get priority tickets for this match Get a season ticket, join the centenary society or go to the next two games. If those activities brought about enough interest I'm sure the club would decide to split the north stand. If they don't the club will no doubt trouser the extra ten grand and I'd be happy for them to do that.
RE: and we just accepted it They are probably prepared to pay higher policing/stewarding costs than us.
Spare a thought for us part timers Thats what I like to hear, plenty of tickets left for us glory hole boys
For us to lose 10k in gate reciepts we would have to cordon off a lot of seats. Imagining they are 20 quid each on average (concessions etc) then for barnsley to lose 10k would mean cordonning off around 1,111 seats. Considering that the stand only has 4 main blocks and two half blocks so we'll say 5 in total for ease of maths that means that we'd be cordonning off well over an entire block of seats. If as you suggested earler it is more like 100 seats (i agree with that figure based on other grounds) then it is more likely to directly cost barnsley around 900 quid which lets face it isn't a lot of money to ensure that we have almost 3,000 more home fans in or to put it another way 6000 to increase the bias of home to away fans by 6,000.
woudnt suprise me if there more a less more man u fans than us in our end too i know quite a lot of man u fans from barnsley who are goin just to see man u
Let's be honest... We ALL know quite a few part-time Manure fans don't we? They'll come crawling out of the closet asking for tickets (whether that be home or away end). Obviously i'd rather the Tarn fans who don't have season tickets get the tickets rather than the other lot - and by the looks of it the club recognice this too with the stubs initiative. (clap) (clap)
so u tellin me u dont know any too eaststand wot goods it do throwin stones at em end of day happened vs chelsea to us
Yes i do know glory hunting United fans but if i saw them sat in the Barnsley stand i'd let it be known where their loyalties actually lie.
end of day its only like a few of our fans who dint get a ticket vs liverpool and ended up in there end
