The trouble is it isn't so simple anymore. Times have changed. In this ridiculous age we need to have police and stewarding numbers lined up for the number of supporters, the safety certificates are awarded in the knowledge of likely footfall and all sorts. It's daft how things have changed to an extent - but be honest, do you think the 'vast swaithes of terracing' were properly safe? Fond memories aside, how many times did you go home with bruises, piss (not your own) or beer soaked trousers? How many times did you end up in the same part of the terrace you started off at (when it was full)? I'm all for standing coming back but it can't be like it was. Anyway, back to Monday. If they left the offer open on the day, there is a chance, albeit limited, of a very large number of folk wanting in which is too many for the available seats (at least the ones that we have a safety certificate for), and that the limited number of turnstiles couldn't cope with either. Loads of disgruntled folk stuck outside with nowhere to go and no one to move them on. That's where the safety issue is - and whilst it's not likely, it's possible. Remember we are in South Yorkshire and have to rely on South Yorkshire police... and Doyle's security. Although the real reason they can't will be some pathetic legal restriction due to the prepublication throughout he season of the difference between match day and Prebought prices - or they probably aren't allowed due to football league rule 12 paragraph 4 line 6 subsection 4(d) - thou shalt not get a full house against Brentford. Either way I don't think it's that big an issue - there's plenty of clubs you can't walk up and buy a ticket at for any match, asking to prebook up to the night before for a huge price saving is hardly that big an ask. Only at Barnsley would a club be bashed by its fans for doing a cheap ticket offer. And some folk wonder why they don't do it more often! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
It is another cheap ticket offer, at Easter. It's a positive. But yet it's brought about (on here) more complaints than praise. Had the club not initiated it, and just left it as is, £23 or whatever, nobody would have said owt. It was literally a nice gesture, simple as that. I am not involved in ticketing so no idea why it isn't pay on the day at that price, but even so, anyone can purchase a ticket at the reduced price by going to the club shop or booking online. As you say mate, not rocket science.
It's frustrating when the club comes up with a good idea and then makes unnecessary mistakes in its implementation. A bit like delaying the flexi ticket until October and then withdrawing it in December.
Easter Monday was my first match. A last minute treat as a 13 yo. Been going ever since. They've had thousands off me*; I am the original next-generation fan. * and provided countless hours of joy and entertainment in return I may add. Sent from my SM-T800 using Tapatalk
Not complaints, Whitey, just observations. It's a brilliant offer, but why handicap it by not allowing pay on the day at the turnstiles? Nature of bank holidays is there ends up being lots of families stuck for summat to do. Kids have eaten all the Easter eggs, bored. How simple for them to be able to make a late decision and walk up to Oakwell with their tenners and fivers and have an afternoon at the footy. Sure, it might only have put a couple of dozen extra on the gate, but that's not really the point. It's making our club, the towns club, accessible to everyone in the town, not just the diehards and ST regulars. That core audience might represent the revenue that keeps the club ticking over year-on-year, but it's getting older. There would have been thousands of folk that went to Wembley, possibly twice, who still don't have the foggiest what the JPT was, how the playoffs work, possibly even which division the club is in! They weren't likely to automatically race back north and queue up for a ST off the back of all that, no matter how amazing it was. A few might have done, but those others needed wooing a little harder, while that momentum was still there. Cheaper (and I've never said half-price - that's daft) season tickets, with blitzkrieg marketing across Barnsley, Wakey and beyond and i think you'd have been surprised. People aren't stupid, but often need a bit more hand-holding to sell them something brilliant. Like others have said, the club are doing an amazing job with so many things in so many areas, but therein lies the frustration that they often miss the simple, free hits lying right under their collective nose. Our players have been in schools for much of the last week or so handing out free tickets and such. And I'm not just talking schools in Barnsley either. The amount of free tickets given out to kids is unreal, especially for this Monday. I don't want to sound harsh but I honestly don't agree with you regards this issue you've raised. It's £10/5 if you buy a ticket at the box office or online before Monday. As for the season ticket prices, as has been made clear already, we are one of the cheapest around and offer free under 12s tickets.
**SPECIAL OFFER TICKET PRICES OF £10 ADULTS AND £5 ALL CONCESSIONS ARE AVAILABLE UP TO MIDNIGHT ON SUNDAY 16TH APRIL. STANDARD CATEGORY D MATCHDAY PRICING APPLIES ON THE DAY OF THE GAME.**
Its been took down on-line, end of online sales l'm guessing. Didn't looked to have sold many more yesterday.
Weird that - match has gone completely. I appreciate they can't post anything in time, but print at home/collect on day should still be live, no? Maybe every single seat in the ground has sold.
Making it more expensive on the day is putting off those supporters who HAVE to make a late decision, are prone to making last minute plans or haven't the inclination/nouse/wherewithall to do things in advance. I think the club underestimate how many people fall into these categories. You have to make it as EASY as possible for people to attend, otherwise you are just reaching out to the committed.
I had a click in on the site. There are very few seats available in the ES. In some sections they are just singles dotted around
