Other clubs do similar things It remains to be seen what the long term financial cost of yesterday's debacle will be. No system will be perfect but one that rewards distance (very roughly) travelled from Barnsley will be better than most. How will it cost much? It would be a simple database system which would cost less than a weeks wages for Dwayne Mattis. Need a quote?
RE: Other clubs do similar things Yes but there's the costs of integrating it with the other club systems, producing membership cards, providing an online system for checking your status - why not allow booking online then if we are going to all this trouble? Im not saying cost will be prohibitive and I think a miles/points type of system would be the fairest way of all. It would certainly make a lot of sense if the online booking and away booking systems were also looked at at the same time.
RE: Good for London tykes! I was assuming everyone that went to a game got the same number of miles or points.
I am not sure how to decide the actual categories But there needs to be more. It might take a little more organising, but surely its better than 6000 people all in the same category having to get down to oakwell on the same day.
summat like:
Day 1: Season ticket + 5 away tickets.
Day 2: 5 home + 5 away tickets.
Day 3: Season ticket + 2 away
Day 4: Season ticket Day 5: 5 home + 2 away tickets
Day 6: General.
Obviously if you can't get on your day, you would still be able to get on the next day. If you want more than 1 ticket, you have to wait until you have enough from the categories until now. It would mean no mad rush, so no 8 hour queues. Season ticket holders do get priority, but regular fans without are still high up, and regular away travellers get an advantage. We can't continue to have 1 day mad scrambles, it doesn't help anybody. And its hardly rocket science, its only similar to what used to happen, I remember keeping all my ticket stubs for the big games.

RE: Data and equipment lost during administration period In that case has there been an offence committed under the Data Protection Act?
Well BFC if they lost the data or the administrators? If you hold date on people you have to protect it. I'm sure you know that?
They didn't lose it as in misplace it It's not out there in a briefcase somewhere. It was lost as in deleted.
Yes, Everton have 40,000 fans every week though... We barely have 10,000. There's only between 400 and 2000 that go to MOST away games. Are you suggesting that these fans get priority over hardened fans who can't get to alot of AWAY games? Just because 300 go to Plymouth on a cold Tuesday night dosn't mean to say they are any better or worse. I for one can't go to Plymouth because I am working. I'd say that ALL Season ticket holders should be GUARANTEED a ticket, for putting that INITIAL faith in the club. Right from the get go. Maybe then, once they have their OWN can they say 'Right, I've got 3 away match tickets, can I have another ticket too' etc... It's not rocket science. Just demand exceeding supply, and Barnsley FC not knowing how to handle it.
a swipe Fan Card which .................. logs all matches attended home and away
then just categorise on matches attended irrespective of home or away eg
20+ day 1
15-19 day 2
10-14 day 3
5-9 day 4
0-4day 5

RE: a swipe Fan Card which .................. I have to disagree. Why should people lives revolve around the Football club? Wasn't this one of the MAIN reasons why people were unhappy with the ticketing, 'Because they couldn't get down to Oakwell on Monday morning?...' There are at least 6/7 midweek games every season. I, as a regular shift worker may only be able to get to 1/2 of these. That means, if I went to every other away game - I would still only qualify for the 2nd day of ticketing (which I wouldn't be happy about, as it's out of my hands). Good theory, but no, totally out of the question in my opinion. I think tickets should be issued as follows: Each ST Holder gets ONE GUARANTEED (5,500 ST holders?) That would mean 500 are left over. Once 5500 are gone, THEN ST Holders can go and say 'I've been to 5+ away matches, I want ONE more ticket or I've been to 10+ away matches, I want TWO more tickets'. We aren't that big a club, we average around what - 800 away fans per game (if that). This would keep the majority happy. Obviously, any remaining tickets could then go on general sale.
I suppose it all boils down to............. whether a ST holder who misses half the matches and doesn't go away is more "worthy" than someone who pays on the day to all home and awaay games
My suggestion Obtain 6,000 tickets.
Publish a set of rules for how they will be allocated to 6,000+ season ticket holders and other fans.
Lose the piece of paper you wrote the rules on.
Say "**** it" and make people queue in the freezing cold for hours and if they are lucky enough to reach the front of the queue let them buy 2 tickets per season ticket even though you know there won't be enough left for season ticket holders further back in the queue, but at least the tickets will sell quicker, and we can all go home earlier.
Receive loads of flak at a meeting the following day including calls for you to resign.
I reckon this should be adopted, it worked on monday.

RE: Yes, Everton have 40,000 fans every week though... But Liverpool is an away game and so away games really should be taken into consideration. If it was an home game, I would have agreed with your idea. I don't see why people who were there with mere hundreds in pre season and to places like Colchester etc, should risk missing out so some season ticket holder can go to their first away match of the season, just because it's Liverpool.
Season ticket categories as we did in the Premiership, it worked well, as we had 1600 ish season ticket holders and averaged 3,000 tickets per away game. Never had an issue with that, and it also spread the amount of people converging on Oakwell at any one time
RE: Footy Miles I like that idea, but would amend it slighty to add that it included the distance you have to travel to home games. We don't all live in the borough and to some of us every game is an 'away' game but we still put the effort in.
RE: Yes, Everton have 40,000 fans every week though... Season Ticket holder or pay on the gate customer home or away 1 point.
