Long may it continue. The frustration of watching teams use dark arts and time-waste against us for years was infuriating. Its about time we started giving teams a bit back.
I would actually ban any fan who doesnt throw a stray ball back onto the pitch to stop play when the opposition take a quick throw with one of the balls on cones.
Seconded. I'd also advocate for a tactical placement of a ball in every stand for a lucky supporter to chuck it on 3 times a game if they look like they're gonna score.
A few years ago Blackburn were playing Liverpool in the FA Cup.Going into injury time with Liverpool losing at Ewood Park the ball went out of play for a Liverpool throw. For some reason the home ball boy gave the ball to the Liverpool thrower at breakneck speed resulting in a Liverpool equalizer. After the game the studio pundits all lamented and blamed the ball boy for not taking his time and costing Blackburn the victory. Love it loathe it time wasting is all part of the game.We love it when we do it and loathe it when our opponents do it.
I don't think they condoned cheating as such. There take on the matter was if the ball boy hadn't been so quick giving the ball back Blackburn would have won.If memory serves right There was 4 minutes extra time and the throw was in the 94 minute.
I think we might not be the worst, but we're nowhere near the best. They waste time and receive zero bookings!
Yes but the net outcome would still result in fans getting to the ground for a 3pm kick off and leaving circa 5pm having watched 60mins of in play football as they do now. In addition there is no guarantee that teams in the lead wouldn’t still purposely slow the game down at throw ins etc if only to break up the oppositions flow.
It's not about when supporters arrive and leave. I don't care about that. It's about, with 5 minutes remaining, or 10 or whatever, that the full amount of that time is played. Currently, the team leading will waste much of the last section of a game by taking an inordinate amount of time with free kicks, throw ins, goal kicks and corners. And although the ref may point at his watch and occasionally book a player, very little if any of the time wasting is added on. The clock may say the team losing has 5 minutes to get an equaliser but in reality they have about a minute of actual play the rest of the time the ball is out of play. With stop clock, when the clock states there is 5 minutes of the game remaining then there is exactly 5 minutes of the game remaining.
I’m okay with having the game on the clock provided we keep the 90 mins game time, otherwise it seems a pointless excerise
You don't get 45 minutes of play, nowhere near, that's the point. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/61342349
Not really bothered that we timewasted tbh, we got that elusive home win, that was main thing we needed to do yesterday, we would have had far more to moan about if we hadn’t managed game out. If this is to be catalyst to turning home form around then I for one will be happy with that. Confidence will come back and we won’t be as nervy in future games.
There'd be some on here losing their minds. "70 minutes instead of 90 and we're still paying the same price in? Bloody thieves, sack the board!"
He deserved his booking just not at the moment he received it. At every goal kick he was going across to the goals & kicking his boots against the posts to waste time.
it’s the most pointless booking going anyway once a player is on a yellow for timewasting it’s like a free pass cos a ref is never going to send a player off for it so it’s almost like a protective measure tbh.
