I know people have been talking about Led Zeppelin but I'm not sure I've seen anyone say that we should walk out to them though (I may be mistaken). And yes I agree, whatever song or piece of music we walk out to should be relevant and recognisable to the vast majority of supporters, not just 40 odd year old crusties like myself.
I've no problem with it. It's schitt, but it's ours, I guess. My suggestion, as ever, would be Queen's 'One Vision'. Great riff at the start, appropriate lyrics. As Whitey says, however this gets tackled, we'll end up with Timerider.
Thats cos Old goats playing with the titles. sorry OG Stairway to Heaven Dazed and confused Good times, bad times. Black dog Whole lotta love Bet tha's still not heard on em mind.
I would have thought that the music would be kept forever like your love for the club its something you have grown up with and identify to. But as all topics there is a massive devide between the old and new generations.
I absolutely love Timerider. When it’s a big game, plenty of opposition fans and lots at stake, it chokes me. I’m all on not bursting into tiers, because it’s OURS.
Which generation wants to keep It? I'm an old bugger who remembers the players coming out to silence for the most part. Not sure who picked Cocoon in the first place but its always been schitt. Only got accepted because it was slightly less irritable than the Clap Clap song. I'd rather have something we can sing along to than clap clap. Much as I don't like the Sheffield clubs,"Greasy Chip Buttie" and "Hi ho Sheffield Wednesday" ring out loudly as do "You'll Never Walk Alone", "Marching on Together", "Blue Moon" and "Forever Blowing Bubbles". I'd rather we came out to "Your defence is terrified" song whatever it is. At least we could join in with "Deekay's on fire"
I’ve been watching the Reds for 51 years though the bad times and the .........slightly less bad times. I’ve endured some poor owners, dreadful Managers and some laughably bad ‘footballers’. I’ve put up with all this and I expect to put up with it until I ‘pop my clogs. BUT, there’s one thing which I cannot put up with, and that’s the idea of watching the Super Reds run out to any dirge by the most over-rated ‘band’ in world history. That, I’m afraid, would be stretching my loyalty too far. I’m not keen!
I may have been in a similar part of the stadium to you mate - there must have been dust around or it was the onions that go with the hot dogs - because my eyes watered as well. Still brings a lump to my throat when the song comes into my head. Like others have said - it may be $hit but it’s our $hit. A bit like Toby Tike. Note for the younger end who haven’t heard Rock and Roll by Led Zeppelin (see original post): when you’re in your car some time, get it up on Spotify (other streaming services are available) and turn up the volume. You’ll find it improves the car’s acceleration and top speed by at least 20%.
Timerider always reminds me of Oakwell and watching the Reds. It gets everyone up on their feet clapping the lads coming out onto the field. It’s a classic tune that goes hand in hand with the best club in Yorkshire, it needs to stay
I'll stick my twopenneth in and someone suggested that the song should mean something or be relevant..... Fanfare For The Common Man - ELP
They play the opening fanfare just before timerider , so I’d prefer the status quo tbh. (Not the group)
