Mainly 19th Century British politics and Soviet Union under Stalin. Did my dissertation on the Hillsborough disaster and the political background to the media reaction and blaming of the fans. Do you have an interest in history then?
well ive got a history degree too, (not that ive used it with my choice of career path) and actually (but reluctantly) did a little bit of research about 'Britishness' and british national identity. i found that this concept only came into being around the 1870s, when britain was extending its empire. it was a right wing conservative driven premise, based upon the values that were held dear in our public schools: stiff upper lip, fair play and all that. prior to queen victoria the monarchy was seldom seen in public. the grand spectacle of victorias jubilees were employed as a symbol of britains strength and power, extending its overseas empire, industry etc. this is called the invention of tradition, for it had seldom happened before. however, during the 1930s new leftist writers emerged (orwell etc) and challenged this view of Britain. it is evident though, that the right wing conservative view of britishness still persists to this day!!!

A little.... Did you know that one of the few Police Officers that came out of the Lord Justice Taylor report with any creditwas former Chief SuperintendentMr J Nesbit.

It vaguely rings a bell, but I concentrated more on the political climate of the time, Thatcher's "enemy within" culture and how football fans had been her next target after the miners and how this created a culture where the media were able to blame the fans and the public happy to lap it up
