You have hit the nail on the head there.

That is why I was extremely passed off with Mansford a few weeks back.

Time may show he has done some good wheeling & dealing, lets hope so, but for me the lateness of the signings has done Danny no favours at all, especially as our two "marquee signings", if you could call them that (Lita & Tracey) look like they've been eating pies in the close season.

There are some very promising signs, but there will be more disappointment ahead before we turn a corner. That said, I fancy us to beat Crewe at their place on Saturday...

There is some truth in this too. Wilson did no better than Flicker last season. His loan signings were a disaster, but he admitted to that.

The bottom line for me is who would I rather have as manager of BFC, Flicker or Wilson... Wilson every time thank you very much.

I know what you are saying and Danny himself has stated we are aiming for top 6 but I wont necessarily say the season is a failure if we dont finish there. Not sure how old you are but one of my memories is the season after Clarke got us promoted from the 4th division to the 3rd

He then dismantled a side and built a new one - we lost the first 2 games without scoring ( 3-0 and 2-0) and were bumping along near the bottom for the first half of the season cuminating in the infamous 7-0 drubbing at Reading - second half of the season we recovered and finished mid table but with a much better side than the one we had had 12 months previously - in fact the following season was one of the best ever to be a Barnsley fan

I am not sure a top 6 finish this season is realistic given the way we have again a completely new side. What is important is we dont go down!! and that we improve as the season goes on - Id take Mid table if we have the players in place to go for automatic next season

The thing is though, all of the loans players & signings Wilson brought in were meant to be better than what we had. They all had experience in the championship or higher and were expected to perform like they should have.

On paper they were all decent players, Jack Hunt, Frimpong, Proschwitz, McLaughlin etc. but bar the first game McLaughlin played before he got injured they all massively underperformed.

Top six is not realistic. I would be happy with mid table. I didn't want Wilson back but he is Manager and deserves time to see if HIS newly assembled squad can start performing.
The problem is how much time will he get and how bad would it have to be before the trigger is pulled?
I didn't attend last night but after reading various posts it appears we are trying to play correct way.
A continuation of what I witnessed last Saturday though will have the Manager under enormous pressure.
The product on offer has to entertain. Its a long time since I can say I have been entertained watching Barnsley Fc.
Wilson has a plan and supporters need to see evidence that it is working.
If it appears not be be working then how long do we wait for it to start working?
I have my thoughts on this but they mean nothing as do the opinions of the rest of our fans.
The Hierarchy at Oakwell ultimately have control of where the club is heading.
    Lets hope its Upwards.

My comments are aimed at those fans calling for Wilson to be sacked after just 2 games. I did not attend last night, but on Saturday it looked like a preseason friendly. There was no cohesion to our play and in such circumstances it is hard to see who is a good player and who is not. Obviously, if we are still poor at Christmas and it is hard to see any improvement, then I would expect that the natives will be restless, but given the circumstances fans should not expect the team to hit the ground running.

I have a record of defending every manager on here. In the case of Keith Hill, he took over from Mark Robins on a much reduced budget. He had Shackell sold by the board in order to balance the books. In spite of this inauspicious start, he got the team playing the best football in 6 years. Had that team stayed together, it would undoubted have finished above half way. However fate stepped in and he lost Butterfield, Drinkwater and Vaz Te in a fortnight. He was unable to stem the subsequent tide of defeats that followed, but Danny Wilson also showed us how hard it is to operate in the January loan market.

Ultimately, we were relegated because our budget was not large enough to sustain second tier football, The performance of our managers was secondary to that fact, and if you cannot accept that then we had better put swing doors on the entrance to the managers office, because the ongoing prospect is for a long queue of managers going through them. What the club needs more than anything at the moment is continuity. The constantly changing policy that follows on from constantly changing managers can only lead to further waste of money.

The people who want rid of DW now would only want rid of the next manager once he loses a few. Not credible.

    100% true...its the over-expectation that kills it

My comments were aimed at those calling for the managers head after two games. If you are saying that you are reserving judgement on the managers performance until the end of the season, then that is a different matter and we can have that conversation later. My default position is to support the present incumbent, but in a sense the league position is unimportant. I would be more interested in whether the team was improving and what I thought the future looked like. The last time that we were promoted, we were not ready. We were never able to consolidate our position in the league because we went up without that core of players who were capable of living with the standard of play in the higher division. Consequently, we were subjected to years of demoralising defeats and slowly reducing budgets as crowds gradually fell away.

If you remember that promotion day in Cardiff, we won on penalties against a Swansea side who I thought were marginally the better team on the day. Compare our fortunes since. The defeat for Swansea enabled them to use the extra season to consolidate and give their young and promising players an extra year in the lower division.

There is more to this game than instant success. Sometimes you have to take a step back in order to move forward. There needs to be a longer term plan, and I think that the youngsters currently emerging from the academy give us that opportunity. If you need further proof that homegrown talent is important to the success of Barnsley Football club, just go through the players in the teams that have been successful and count the number of players that were developed through the academy.

Didn't want Wilson back, but when he was appointed I said he would need two full seasons in charge before I questioned his appointment. I'm quietly confident he's beginning to make in-roads.

Funnily enough, there's a number of folk who refused to accept Hill or Flicker at any time and were calling for Danny to be appointed, who are now grumbling.

Ah well, if we sack enough managers the law of averages says we'll get it right eventually. Sadly we'll probably be in the Conference by then...

Patience! Danny will get it right, a when he does we will have a team to be proud of. A team not just for now. A team for the next 5 years, as the promising youngsters and the under 24s added by Danny grow together.

The only problem with the above is that if any of the youngsters shine they will be sold so they wont get the chance to play together for 5 years.

Its a nice thought though that this team could stay together to see what we could achive
