Toby, instantly recognisable, that oak well thing

an amaturish load of ******, and the town crest, no one from outside of Barnsley would recognise it, TOBY TOBY

I reckon the Oakwell badge should be brought back. Thats what it was for years. But now we seem to change badges as often as managers. Toby Tyke could be used on some merchandise.

    The Oak and Well

Clear and representative historical association with the club - OK, specifically the ground but still far less generic than the town crest (Barnsley itself) or the white rose (Yorkshire).

Shares the problem of being a bit of a crap design but compared to Toby...

I think a new, custom emblem, designed around the Oak and Well theme would be a good, long term answer.

For me, we rebranded the club by changing the emblem at the worst possible time - after we got relegated to the lower leagues. I associate the white rose emblem with happier times, and the town coat of arms is what I associate with relegation, administration, and hardship. When we had the rose emblem we were ambitious, successful, we were atop halfside, and we experienced the Premier League. When all that disappeared, we rebranded, and effectively jettisoned (in my mind) all the positive associations wehad gathered upover that time. That is what an emblem is all about, that is what brandingis all about - that is why Skoda changed their marketing and branding when VW took over. You do it to launch a positive new future - you don't do it when you know that trouble is on the horizon, because you simply take your brand 'down market'. When we went down to the lower leagues not only did we have to rebuild our fortunes and our reputation, but we also had to fight to establish a new brand. There is a reason why Nottingham Forest have kept that famous logo - they won the European Cup with it.

I don'tlike the emblem we have now (as you might have guessed) - the second problem for me is that the new kits we have had with this logo look cheaper than previous kits - the quality of the fabrics is not as good, and theprinting of the emblem on the kits is not of as high a quality as the kits we saw with the rose logo on.

Everything I have seen of the coat of arms has been about (or has suggested to me) cost saving anddown grading. I agreethat in principle the coat of arms is more 'Barnsley' than the white rose, which is essentially 'Yorkshire', it's just the timing, and the presentation of this coat of arms emblem has been pretty poor. BFC just isn't image conscious enough to pay proper attention to which emblem we use (and image conscious, when handled properly can equate directly to income and fan base growth).

Not a big fan of the Toby Tyke badge, but it is great for the younger fans and should be pitched at schools and youngsters more directly than it is.

I think the main club logo should be the Oakwell personally, and if we stay up, it would be a decent time to relaunch it. Especially if they launched a retro range to accompany it - nice Ronnie Glavin shirt.

The fabric has changed to a more modern fabric, just like every other club. As for the emblems, they are all woven and attached to the kit, so dont really understand your point about the printing. This seasons kits are excellent.

Not Toby but there is a prob with coat of arms

It's not easily transferable onto the shirt. It involves too many colours/ definitely has to be sewn on. It is overly complicated. I'd like to see an updated, simplified version of the coat of arms.... something that still represents what's on there but in a more eye catching way. The Toby Tyke logo shouldn't be used for anything other than souvenir shop stuff - definitely NOT the BFC shirt. Way too gimmic like.

Updated, cooler version of Toby Tyke would be good

It would be pretty easy to come up with a cooler version of Toby Tyke, something a bit sharper and more energetic. Anyone on here handy with graphics packages? Something a bit snarlier, I'm thinking. And get rid of the 'Toby Tyke' text, we know who it is ffs.

Sorry I didn't mean that the badges were printed directly onto the shirt -I don't get the impression that they are woven as such, but printed up and then pressed onto the shirt somehow. I see what you mean about modern materials - but I have seen other people's shirts and thought they looked much better quality and I don't like the materials we use - they feel thin and cheap to me.

We've had decent kits in the past - but for me, we've never had an 'excellent'kit - my idea of an excellent kit would be a top notch Adidas number in blood red, of the same standard as Liverpool, with a fully embroidered logo. I liked the promotion kits very much, I liked the Premier League kit (although it has dated quite badly since) and I thought the Millenium kit was good (Wembley).

The problem with the white rose emblem

is that its not specific to the town or club.
