    i, along with the rest of the western world, don't give a ****. anybody with eyes knew, long before his (agents) decision to shock the world with this announcement. why this makes front page news is beyond me. actually, why this makes any news, is beyond me. now being praised nationally, for being 'courageous and brave'. ffs

    It makes front page news because he is one of the very few sports stars to come out as gay -- a gay Olympian is big news. He has been brave because he had no way of knowing how the media/public would respond. There are many gay people - footballers included - who live in fear of being 'outed.'
    The fact that Tom Daley has had a positive response may give other gay men and women the confidence to come out.
    (pity his t.v. programme is crap!)
