Yes he is but if you read their website he is in some kind of dispute about his wages. They offered him a new deal before Christmas which means a pay cut. I think we could get him if we offered what he asked for, or something near it. One problem though - the USUAL ONE. He's been out injured for a few months with a knee injury and there is no indication of whether he is fit to play or not just yet. I agree that him and Winnall could be a cracking partnership up front, but it's no good if they are keeping each other company in the treatment room. His scoring record at Vale is certainly good enough but I wonder how much this can be attributed to it being his home town club. He obviously loves the place and might flop somewhere else. Interesting if we make a bid for him, but time is running out for a permanent deal. Wouldn't it be great though if we grabbed him on Friday then the new strike duo smacked in four goals between them on Saturday! Dreaming, I know....
Obvious reason why Tom Pope should sign for us - to continue the line that includes a Bishop, an Archdeacon and Moses. Might has well go for the top man, unless of course God is available somewhere
Might be worth a shot, apparently he has the same agent as Bobby Hassell and Bruce Dyer. He'd definitely be a threat going forward, can part defences like the Red Sea the kid. Also has one or two tricks up his sleeve at set-pieces (plague of locusts, genocidal earth-encompassing floods). But even if he signs, I still think we need another left back.
Dodds and Campion out with broken foot and ribs. Williamson one to watch. Pope still coming back from injury. Can't see it this window
Can't argue that we have far too many under performing players, but even if they were banging the goals in none of them offer what Pope does. Winnall is the only striker we have that can physically dominate a centre back on his day, but even he doesn't have the physical frame that Pope does. Plus he will double the amount of professional appearances in the squad!
Re: I reckon a 'town hall steps' offer is more than merited here Not worried about Tom Pope at all. I wouldn't say he was that good and our defence hasn't been bad recently, it's our attacking players underperforming.
Re: I reckon a 'town hall steps' offer is more than merited here Staying on the religious theme... We used to have Graham Pew. (yeah, I know) There's the prem player called Font. There have been players called East and West, so they would now have to be signed within the East and West window transfer period..... help, I'm struggling here. Colin Bell. Tony Towers. Albert Spires. Rodney Roodscreen. Bobby and Gordon Clapper. Both wingers, very fast in their day so I've heard. Nobody could run like the Clappers.
