Whilst I certainly don't condone any of that behaviour, isn't this a prime example why managers shouldn't be told who they have to offer contracts to or retain at the club? We will never be successful if the board interfere with playing staff decisions.
have to disagree on this one ark. bobby is a Club legend, and fully deserves his testimonial. what he's done for the town, the community and the Club, pi$$es royally on keith hill and his legacy. it's quite possible that bobby would not have been honoured his testimonial, if it had been up to hill & flitcroft. the board did the right thing, IMO hopefully this temporary nightmare is over for him now, and at least he'll be afforded the respect he deserves from danny & co. you fcukin lej bobby!
No...........I still cannot see why supporters worship Bobby Hassell Everyone agrees that bobby has been a good servant to Barnsley Football Club..........but so has HUNDREDS of other players So what is so different about Bobby Hassell..........I just don't get it............and I'm sure I'm not the only one The last 5 games I've seen him play he has had one good game........the rest he showed he was too slow. Has this unrelenting worship of a player by the fans actually undermined the efforts of Hill and Flicka in their dressing room discussions??? If there was a problem with HillFlicka and Bobby; and yet Bobby is still a good player..........then why didn't Micky Mellon put him in the first team??? Can we just let the managers choose the players they want to play FFS !!!
Which four games has he played poorly? Results on the pitch would suggest that isn't the case when he's played
Don't get me wrong I think the personal treatment of Bobby Hassell is a huge negative of both their tenures at the club. But I also beleive that as well as not liking him, they didn't rate him. Neither of them were stupid enough to leave someone out they thought was good enough to play (and both did play him at times and regulalry played others they were rumoured not to get on with). Why would they do that? But who has gained anything from them being forced to keep him at the club? It has been a constant sideshow which has undermined both of them, Bobby has spent the twighlight of his career stuck not playing football, it has polarised the fan base, and served as a huge stick to beat everyone with and affected our chances of success as fans, media and club are all at odds and not united I don't think we will ever be successful if the board interfere with playing staff decisions.
They obviously had a dislike to him that was clouding their judgement. Maybe it's the religion thing? Maybe just because he is more popular than they ever could be. Whatever the reasons it was pathetic from 2 supposedly professional adults. They did play him occasionally and he always performed well. We looked solid at the end of last season with him in the side, got some great results. So I am not sure it's possible for them not to rate him if they are looking at each player with the same unbiased outlook. Both were a pair of plebs when it came to Bobby and ultimately he is still with us while they have failed miserably and been sacked.
Played 3, won 1, drew 1, lost 1. Exactly the kind of form you need for a top half finish. The abuse he got after just 3 games in charge which were relatively successful is just barmy. I'm pleased we've kept Micky on. He's not a Flicker clone, he completely changed the team and formation around after Flicker left and put many of the players in to their more natural positions. I think he'll be a good second in command to Danny. I see little point in throwing the baby out with the bath water. The Oakwell hierarchy identified some talent in Micky and wanted that talent at our club. Good on 'em. Danny is his own man, he'll see the players for himself and pick the team accordingly. But why get rid of a coach that those in charge can see has got something. We want such people as part of our team not someone else's. Micky's a good man, Danny will see that and they'll work well together.
Agree 100% with that. I was offline yesterday and missed all the fun, but I saw the thread(s) about Wilson/Redfearn on Monday and was thinking of starting one asking for opinions on a prospective Wilson/Mellon partnership... Pity I didn't visit the bookies first. I think that if both can work together we have two relatively successful managers in the coaching staff which can only help long term. This will also make succession planning easier for the club - if Wilson is very successful and poached or a failure and sacked then we have a replacement on staff.
Its also probably not a coincidence that we changed the team around when micky came in at the start and we went on that run. imho flicker took a tighter hold of the reigns this season and look what happened.
