Yes but they're only setting off so early so that they can all get pissed. For me you don't do pitch inspections based on fans who want to get rat arsed, you base it on the game of football and people setting off at a time that isn't absolutely bonkers.
What's the solution though? You can't do it so early that you have no idea what the pitch is going to be like... Maybe they should have done the pitch inspection a week ago in case anyone is coming from oversees?
Totally agree with you, but tell me who's going to be setting off for a game of football 150 miles away after waiting for a pitch inspection at 11 am? Answer - No-one
You're getting stupid now. There's already 5 games off tomorrow already. 2 in League 1 and 3 in League 2. Surely someone can hazard a guess earlier than 4 hours before a game surely.
Not forecast to freeze tonight down there, 1° at 3am, rising to 5° at pitch inspection time, should be fine. There's a fair few off around the country already tho.
I think 11 is a BIT too late but I also think that means they're pretty confident. The problem is you can't do an inspection much earlier than that for a frozen pitch, you just can't and I certainly don't turn that people stupidly setting off ridiculously early should have any bearing on the inspection, it should be done with a realistic time in mind, not a bonkers one. If they were doing that then I know someone who's went down there yesterday because he's catching up with friends in London, using the same logic the inspection should have been done 2 days early. In reality the best course of action would probably be to move the kick off back to 4pm but that brings with it it's own problems. Or people will just have to accept that if they set off at a reasonable time they may have got to chesterfield and have to turn back.
It's a lot easier to say a pitch is definitely not going to be ready though than to say it is going to be ready.
Logic would dictate that this would be a sensible option but there is one major flaw with it and is probably why they don’t. I’d imagine they leave it as long as possible to give the game every chance to go ahead, imagine the chaos for the fixture list pile ups towards end of season if people used an educated guess method.
Someone on their forum has said it's 4° down there and game will be on. Someone else pointed out that's air temperature, not ground temperature. Comedian then points out they only play in the air anyway
Beats me why they couldn't have two pitch inspections, one early in case it was OK and then if it wasn't a second at eleven to give it a chance to improve
