Van Der Velden was a midfielder and from the little I saw of him he looked decent if a little bit on the chunky side. Rumour doing the rounds during his time here was that allegedly he had a run in with the local plod after they stopped his car and found him under the influence of some exotic hand rolled cigarettes. Ten Heuvel was a forrard .........sithi.

Ha! This is a true story, believe it or not.

In the days when you could get the programme in the club shop in the Alhambra, we’d get one on the way to the pub. We were sat in Dirty O’Dwyers and it was a game where the wife had come up with us (the London Reds) too. We were all chatting, and she was looking through the programme. She suddenly piped up “I didn’t know you’d signed a new Dutch bloke”. We replied that we hadn’t and she pointed out the player on the sponsorship page. “That’s Rory Fallon, he’s a Kiwi” I said. And as she moved her hand he was sponsored by, yep, Darton Van Hire! I told her he had a cousin down south, Croydon Van Hire.
