I think the average figure for the last playoff spot is somewhere between 72 and 76 points. Across the many seasons since their inception. So we need 10 wins from 16. Not beyond the realms of possibility, but a big ask.
While I obviously want us to get as high as we possibly can, I don't think it should in any way be seen as a negative not to make the play offs. We go into every match looking to win, every player is giving 100%. I think Bournemouth look the shakiest, Brentford are piling up the injuries so I can't see them getting automatic. We keep saying Reading will fall away but they're still in amongst it.
Absolutely right Helen. After being 1 minute away from relegation last July, huge progress has been made.
Very true when you consider Val has 41 points from his 23 league games. 82 across a full season. Autos. edit - not quite automatics most years, my bad.
Reading won 7 and drew 1 of their first 8 games. With a start like that they ought to be coasting not cacking.
We were lucky to get away with no injuries against Cardiff. They just decided to thug us out of the game, under instructions from big Mick.
Remembering that only last season none of the bottom three going into lockdown were relegated, I'd say it's a brave man who makes ANY sort of confident prediction at this stage!
I think you’re wrong. I have nothing to support that statement, except I am normally wrong and hope you bump this in a couple of months
Be amazed if Norwich don’t win the league expect Swansea and Brentford and probably Watford a d Cardiff to be in the top 6. Then one from Bournemouth Boro Reading Stoke or Us to nick the last spot. I think a top 10 finish is realistic. Top 6 possible but not very likely. Win the next 2 games and the chances improve of course
Cardiff have 1 point and a better GD than us but have played a game more. Win on Wednesday and I’d have us as more likely than Cardiff.
We finished 2nd with 80 points in 1997, though that is not normally enough for automatic promotion. I am fairly sure that Swansea went up via the play-offs, after sneaking into 6th spot with 69 points.
