I can't believe that of all the things that could be improved regarding the matchday experience someone, somewhere, has decided to fix something that wasn't broken. Cocoon is OUR intro music. It's been long enough since it replaced the clap clap song that it shouldn't need to be 'fixed'. I don't mind the tweaks that have been done to it over the years, e.g Rocky, Fanfare for the Common Man being mixed in, but Cocoon is ultimately the song that is uniquely and distinctly ours. Playing it at half-time is no substitute for it not being there pre-game.
We are by the looks of things happy wi Cocoon, i'd prefer summat more patriotic an powerful like Jerusalem but then again Barnsley is the Capital of Yorkshire.
I like Cocoon. I wouldn't ever have it on my personal playlist, but for Oakwell it's perfect. Last year I would have swapped it for this one though. A nice doom and gloom feeling for a relegation season and spot on opening lyrics. "We watched them going nowhere, Kicking a football. No purpose? The point boys? In oblivion." Killing Joke - Sun Goes Down
I couldn't agree more. I find it astonishing that of all the things that people flag on here about what happens on a matchday, many of which are simple fixes, we have this constantly repeating effort to displace a unique, iconic symbol of what connects fans to the club for a few moments at the beginning of every game. apart from a few times when someone has tried to retire it, it's been part of the club for what, nearly 30 years? Yes, people may not have it on their play list. They may have personal favourites they'd rather hear. The age range and bredth of barnsley supporter profiles means you'd never find anything that had universal agreement. Yet this works. You can generally tell with the clapping (often out of time til the beat drops more heavily). To whoever came up with the idea for top gun music. Just stop it. Timerider isn't yours. It's for the fans. Your only job is to play it at the right moment for every home game. That's it. So stop messing with things that are absolutely fine and turn your attention to everything else that doesn't work well enough. If by the time you've fixed those (properly) by all means, lets look at the music again. That should give us to about 2063 I reckon.
