That's it, I'm writing to the council. I want gun emplacements on the corner of every roof top, a 24/7 Reaper drone circling overhead and a 3 mile perimeter around the town centre to stop and search every single vehicle. Thank you for highlighting the clear failure of our council to counteract the terrorist threat we Barnsley folk face on a daily basis. God bless you sir.
My exaggeration, but it's supposed to be a pedestrian area to encourage famlies to congregate, this evening there were more vehicles than people. Yesterday some chav tried to drive down the new arcade just to you tube it.
Unfortunately there will always be exceptions, but you would’ve thought the YouTube footage would be self incriminating
But town planners now have a duty to take these kind of threats into consideration and mitigate the possibilities.
It's funny, cos my wife's a paramedic and she was saying to me the other day that getting an ambulance on to the square would be a nightmare due to all the bollards they'd need removing.
They have to allow vehicle access for supplying the many shops around the town. For example tonight a lorry was on cheapside supplying new look. If there's a specific event on they'll prevent vehicle access which is basically what they do in other towns and cities. You can drive straight onto the pedestrian area in fargate in Sheffield too unless their Christmas market is on then there are barriers up
Can't you drive straight down New Street, through cheapside and to the square without any bollards? And from the other side drive down midland street to the turning circle right next to the square?
yep, but there are bollards around the square itself so you can't get on to it in a vehicle unless you get someone with a key to lower the bollards apparently.
One negative about the new town square and glassworks, and I don't know if this was just me or its temporary or what but I went for a walk round last night and even though I'd read that the Superbowl was open I just couldn't tell if it was or not from the entrance which was all in darkness. After a while I walked back round just as someone walked in and it was indeed open but with the tinted doors closed it was the most uninviting and dark looking entry I've seen for a long time with just two dark glass doors leading to an escalator and nothing else. Looking through the windows into the cinema it seems they've gone down a similar route there with a small plain entrance and escalator which makes me think the same is planned for the other upstairs units which is a real shame as it looks so uninviting and basically rundown even in a brand new building
