Monmouthshire negotiate and convince them we are his best option at the moment.

You don't piss them off by making him sit on the naughty step

I think the club have tried that big clubs have been looking at him for alot of last season and turned his head. If he wants to leave doesn't want to be here and isnt going to start the season with us why have him training with the first team.

Agents are the main cause of the problems in my opinion. Young lads like Stirling and Holgate being touted around other clubs, and making them unsettled.

Agree completely. Holgate's been ill-advised in my view. I think the club are right to make him train with the development squad

Bit of a fine line on this one. If the Holgate saga went to a tribunal how would he be described?
A development player in the second string or an integral member of the first team squad. I am sure each description would affect the value of Holgate to bfc.

I doubt it. Unless anything has changed the club made a significantly better offer than the deal he's currently on

Mason Holgate has come from nowhere in a very short space of time and maybe thinks he can emulate John Stones with a quick move to the Premier League after a handful of league games. I say MAYBE because it may be more agent-talk than coming from him. He's a young lad after all, and well capable of being immature, but his talent is without question.

If he really has said that he wants to go and there are offers on the table then there is no way back. I really hope not because I was looking forward to seeing him develop into a top class player for a bit longer. He will go eventually so lets just hope it is for top money. I don't mind us being a selling club/feeder for the Premier League provided we get proper fees for our starlets. That way the club keeps going and the academy keep on churning them out. Perhaps one day soon we will be in the position where we don't have to sell them because they can further their ambitions with us. Well, you have to dream :D

The reason I hope Holgate stays with us for longer is because in recent years so many players have left us and their careers have gone sideways or backwards, such as Howard, Hammill, Butterfield etc. However there's no doubt he will leave eventually but hopefully to progress significantly like Stones. And hopefully the fee we get for him will help us to develop the academy facilities or improve the playing squad significantly.

He might not leave, maybe no one will actually offer us anything, then what? Miles behind on training and pissed off to boot.

I don't see the problem with him training with the 1st team, unless there are other reasons as I said.

I'm satisfied with how it's being handled. We know there is a deal on the table for him and we know he's got lots of interest in him from big clubs. If he's been made to train away from the first team then it dunt take rocket science to work out what's gone off. Shame, because I really enjoyed watching him. But it is what it is and we have to hope that LJ's way of dealing with this works out for us.

Nothing against Holgate and can't fault him for wanting a big move and all that it entails. But am I chuff bothered if he's upset that he's not training with the main group. I would like him to sign the contract and stick around. Because he looks a talent and we need talent. Won't be the first time he's left the club though.

When did he leave before and how do we know there is a bid on the table?

"a deal on the table for him" I said, referring to the fresh contract we've offered him. Can see why you misinterpreted it though.

And he left when he was younger to sign with Leeds. They released him. He came back here.

I've not seen anything anywhere that says he doesn't want to play for the first.team

Well said. If he doesn't want to sign the new contract that has been on the table for him for months then we shouldn't care how upset he is.
