I have absolutely no experience in running anything like that. However, I've seen enough pop-up places to know that it can be done. I went for a run the other day and it took me to Sincil Bank. The fan zone looked superb. Several different food trucks selling local snap and two beer kiosks selling local brews. All behind one of the stands, with a load of plastic tables. As far as I'm aware, it's extremely popular on matchdays. This is a club with a smaller average attendance than us, who surely have a much smaller budget.
Whats point in that? What's done is done. If they're gunna keep him as CEO surely we may as well back and support him? And see if he's learnt anything to improve on past mistakes.
Again, Tranmere have full ownership and clear title. It's all well and good saying 'if they can do it why can't we', but these Clubs don't have the ownership structure that we do. Until that's sorted, I fear investment will be very limited. Can hardly blame people for not investing millions into real estate that they don't own. I very much doubt a single person here would do it with their own money.
Tranmeres fan park is costing £1.7m. £200,000 crowdfunding by fans, £150,000 by the supporters trust, £1.15m by the brewery given the rights to run the place and £200k from a bond scheme. So it hasn't cost their owners anything at all really has it?
no, but I'm assuming the asset value will still ultimately sit with the owners? unless it's been registered as a community asset, which would be brilliant. so I'm assuming the owners are increasing their asset value without actually having to fund much of it - which they will obviously approve in a heartbeat. I could be wrong though. at our place, fans seem to be expecting BFCIC to fund these things, which is a different kettle of fish really. I also personally wouldn't want anything exclusively run by Molson Coors, but I get that's a different conversation. for me, it's about time the real estate owners stepped up. if they're not willing to sell to BFCIC (and I don't want them to), they need to start talking about how they're going to modernise the place, instead of doing the absolute bare minimum.
I understand all that but then i'll just compare it to other businesses. We've just spent £100,000 at work on a building we rent. Why? Because it will make us money. Doesn't matter who owns the land we are renting from, the important thing is that the infrastructure will make US money and we don't intend to leave any time soon.
Agreed. Was a perfect opportunity for the club and could have been used for all sorts of things. A hotel, offices, fan zone and bar, restaurant etc. Could even have been linked via a bridge to a new west stand in the future. Most importantly it would have allowed the rerouting of grove street if ever needed as its exactly where the west stand is at its narrowest point. Interestingly it's owned by the guy who owns bapp for bolts who have been a club sponsor. Not sure if theres any relevance to that
It was practically being given away, for land value. Club would probably have got it for nowt more than a decent development plan.. Was that before Cryne took over, I can’t remember.?
don't know the details of any of what your company has done, so can't really comment. is it truly comparable though? are they also subsidising major operating losses, just to keep going? I totally agree the place needs significant investment. I just don't believe that should all be coming from BFCIC. I think the property owners, i.e. BMBC & Cryne's, need to come to the table. the place hasn't really been touched for 20 years, and it shows. it just feels like all parties are saying 'well we're not paying for it'
