7/10. We went into a window with a fully fit squad and young players who weren’t considered serious 1st team contenders a few months ago who are now key members of the first team. I’m also happy that we have moved a few on. I would like to have kept Potts but the exodus could have been much worse and the club did good overall there. Green seems a good addition. Styles is pushing for contention coming back and we have bolstered the younger end for the future. A striker that would have come straight onto the bench and right back cover, maybe Fryers making way would have got us to 9/10. January for me is a time to add a little and tweak a bit, not to unbalance and disrupt a successful team. We have been victims of that before. I guess it’s people level of expectation that is as much a measure as what we actually do.
5/10 We are weaker now. Potts for me was a very important player and even though Moncur was not a regular, he could be an asset as he has already proved as Luton are 2 points better off than they might otherwise have been because he scored their winner against Portsmouth. The fact that he has gone to a promotion rival just makes it worse. Could have been worse, but it is not a great place to be when we judge the success of a transfer window on the extent to which the team has been weakened rather than strengthened.
7/10 It depends on how you mark your scale 2 options for me If you take 5 as being no change, 1 as being January 2017 and 10 the Jan a few years back when we signed several players like Anderson Da Silva then for this window it would need to be a 4 - We have lost Potts and a couple of fringe players and signed only Green who will be regularly featuring so we are slightly weaker. Arguably we exchanged Bradshaw for Woodrow which would bring it back to a 5 - but really that was summer business. I dont think thats a correct scale though We have tended to be a selling club in January in recent years - I would have settled for only one regular starter going as long as it wasnt Pinnock Moore Woodrow or Mowatt. Also I think Potts going has given Brown a chance to shine and the last few games he has played really well. We were never going to make box office signings as thats not our model so for this reason I am going to give this window (puts on Len Goodman voice) Seven
if you think about it we haven't lost g.g. he still basically works for the firm but in a different dept. and i'd be watching for the " mayor of hanover" down the rails
Not so sure - for certain he isnt as gone as Winkler is but his priority will obviously be Nice where he will be under a lot more pressure than he was here. Sure he may help a bit - especially if were are doing any dealings in France but really he wont be having much involvement with us - especially after an initial handover period
Extremely happy. We're trusting to luck with injuries. However, our best 18 is good enough to get the job done. Had we brought in someone new. Would you be happy signing someone content to warm the bench? I know I wouldn't. New players can upset the apple cart. Who do you drop to accommodate them? You're almost in the situation where you're waiting for a loss of form from one of your key players to legislate a new signing. Good window for me.
3. Lost a first teamer, a regular squad member & sold 2 players to promotion rivals one of which has already meant Luton have extended their lead in the title race by 2 points. Added a squad player of which we know very little & another young winger who may or may not make the bench occasionally. Pretty poor on the pitch. Off the pitch even worse by losing our assistant & chief exec in the same month. Hopefully Brown’s form can continue & we don’t pick up many injuries because if we do I don’t think the squads up to it
yes I agree that he wont be "running" us from afar but he'll always be just at the end of the 'phone for any advice and queries, also it might be handy for us if he steers players that are not quite up to nice's standard at the moment our way after all same guys paying his wages
Pretty happy tbh, yes it would have been nice to have strengthened a bit ( who knows we might have been after others but didn't get a deal) but I think if we are honest most of us are happy to have retained the bulk of the squad. Potts went but we brought Green in and I think a lot are selling him well short because I think he's going to be pretty darn decent. There's been a lot made of GG going to Nice because of our connection, but who knows he might have gone after the job anyway,Nice being a good club in his native France. Apologies for the positivity but ...
7/10 But I can understand why some might feel let down, especially after the "promise" of some signings that we'd be pleased about (or words to that effect). In future, I'd rather the club said nothing to raise expectations unless things are set in stone.
4. Weakened the first 11, the first 18, the management of the team and the leadership of the club whilst simultaneously boosting the squads of the two teams above us in the table. Sure we could have sold even more of our players but let's remember we had absolutely NO need to sell ANY this window and yet we did and realistically we only bothered to replace one out of 3
8+/10. Context. It will always be fluid here with sales and acquisitions, it's Barnsley not Barcelona. People will move on, players and staff - it's how it is now. Be happy, once upon a time we'd have taken all the money on offer.
8 out of 10 for me. Really sorry that we lost Potts but we've otherwise kept a settled and successful first team. Green for Moncur? - don't mind that. Ganaye and Winkler could be serious losses but they aren't transfer window related. If they were, and the club had had any choice in the decisions, I'd have gone for a 5.
Not going to score but will say this ...if the gaffer thinks the players we have are good enough then I'm fine with that... Plus it makes sense why spend money now when next season should we get promoted the money might just be needed for back to back promotions....we can but dream...but let's take every match one at a time and concentrate on getting out of this league by getting behind them and taking all 3 points Saturday ....
4 out of 10 I don't count Bradders v Woody as they were "done deals". We were obliged to complete legally due to summer agreements. Yes we made a big thing of them, but maybe that's because the club knew there wouldn't be much more positive news. Happy with the outgoings, Potts was the only one who has consistently added value to the team. It has given Browny a great opportunity which he has grabbed, long may his form in that role continue. As he continues, I think and hope he will be a much better fit for that position and hopefully be a lot more effective. Green I think will be a good additional and gives us something different. Had I known that we were not going to reinvest the money generated from the sale and wage savings from Isgrove and Moncur, I would have said let them sit it out and leave for free in the summer, maybe use them occasionally or not! These are the two which could now make us look really stupid for not reinvesting if we miss out. This is the point which I find very annoying. We all know there is scope to strengthen, but other than Green we have not! Retention our our existing starting 11. I know it's not, but it should be expected unless really stupid bids come in. Well done for not buckling to the tuppence halfpenny offers as has happened previously!
