Pep would have been the only foreign coach I’d have been interested in appointing.

Surely you'd take Klopp too, mate? If not, why not? Is there an Englishman better than Tuchel?

He did an outstanding job at Chelsea winning a champions league. He left because of disagreements with the hierarchy.

I’m sure the Bayern job didn’t go as well as he would’ve liked but ultimately Leverkusen went the season unbeaten. If a team comes along & achieves that then you aren’t likely to win a league. It’s not like Bayern were significantly worse than normal. They still came runners up.

I prefer the idea of the England manager been English but the only obvious candidate is Howe & they were never going to pay the compensation required to get him.

Carsley ruled himself out with the Greece shambles & I don’t think there’s enthusiasm for Potter so Tuchel makes sense.

No compensation to pay & a proven track record.

Stuttgart came runners up mate. Bayern finished 3rd. I do agree though regarding his job at Chelsea. Was going to comment similar things. He really butted heads with the new owners - and I think he's some what validated in what's happened since.

A suppose Klopp at a push but i just find it sad that we haven’t a English man that we can put our trust in.

Southgate made the semi final in his first World Cup so a lot of pressure to do better with him being a "superior" coach.

There just isn’t an English option, let’s be honest.

Howe? Done a fairly decent job with both Bournemouth and now Newcastle. Nothing exceptional, but probably the best from this country I would say. Potter? Did alright at Brighton. And in Sweden some years ago now. That’s it. They’re your options. Unless I’m missing someone. Can’t say I’d be enthused by either. May as well have stuck with Southgate.

Facts are, there aren’t any successful English coaches out there right now. None. At all. So you either appoint from within, as they did with Gareth (so Carsley) or go overseas.

Tuchel’s early graft at Augsburg and then Mainz was extraordinary. For those doubting, have an in-depth read about him around those two clubs. He’s then been at some massive clubs, won a load of trophies everywhere, coached some of the best players in the world and has a crazy win percentage, particularly in cup format. It’s an outstanding appointment.

Yes, he’s fallen out with folk along the way. And mostly, been proven right down the line.

It’s an exciting appointment and I’m looking forward to what’s ahead for England.

My only gripe is that he’s German. And it’s a tiny gripe. I would rather we had an English coach. But as I started with, there really isn’t one available who you’d back to do any better than Southgate. Thomas has won the lot.

So whatever the Fa's plans and maybe their hopes were regarding Lee Carsley, it looks like they've been scrapped now.
Was Lee himself ever really 100% into it ?. I just can't understand his awful team choices the other night, and his constant dismissive comments when asked if he wanted the job.
So anyway, Tommy Tuchel, come on down, it looks like your the chosen one!!.

tbf getting sacked at Chelsea isn't an indication of anything, given its ultimate inevitability

Bit unfair. Depends on the draws. We lost to Belgium in the group stages, beat Panama & Tunisia. Then we beat Colombia on penalties (after our only goal in the game being a penalty), we beat Sweden, then lost to Croatia. We also then lost again to Belgium. So usual scenario, beat teams we should be beating, struggle against teams whom we are as good as.

Cheers. I would’ve sworn on my life that Bayern finished second. Just looked & Stuttgart leapfrogged them on the last day, I must’ve checked it the week before thinking it was over.
