There's certainly plenty of clinical situations where seeing the patient may not be necessary. Follow up appointments, patients with existing well known conditions, people who physically or mentally aren't up to getting into the surgery etc. Then they're reports, paperwork, test results to check etc. Just because you can't see them doesn't mean they're sat doing nothing, I mean that's pretty disparaging considering their workload and the numbers leaving the service (nearly 2000 in the last 6 years).
The answer machine we get at our Doctors tells you that the receptionist has to ask you what's wrong then they can get you to the appropriate Doctor - surely they all know the same stuff ?
I am not doubting that but a receptionist should not ask over the phone. Why does a doctor take the oath answer is so they cannot tell all and sundrie about whatever is wrong with you. The receptionist can talk to who they like simples
Yes but the point is we should be able to see a doctor and at this point in time it just is not happening
Appropriate doctor at a GPs . GP stands for general practise. I know each doctor may have their own speciality but if there is only 2 doctors at your surgery there will be no specialist for every problem but a GP is supposed to know a little about a lot of ailments
As sad and disgusting as it is, the issue isn't kids in Yemen being killed by British bombs. https://www.oxfam.org/en/press-rele...h-rest-world-put-together-over-past-two-years
I’ve no idea if you’re just being argumentative or you genuinely don’t understand the meaning of the words. But triage is carried out by a medical professional who determines the priority of a patients needs. The triage nurse makes the decision whether you need urgent medical care or whether you can wait in the waiting room for hours. The doctor’s receptionist in this story took a couple of verbal clues to the doctor who made a decision to refer for emergency treatment, if ‘triage’ occurred, it was done by the GP.
I am not being argumentative but in hospital, yes the triage is done by a qualified nurse usually who should know if your ailment is seious or not and can in hospital send you to the right department or doctor but does not actually do anything unless told by a doctor and then only what they have been trained to do. Now how many gp receptionists are medically trained .not many and some are school leavers
It wasn't long till the 'look after our own' is trotted out. I wonder how many immigrant GP's are unable to 'look after our own' following Brexit?
Why do they need to be medically trained to write down the words you tell them and show it to the GP, who then makes the decision?
I am not saying they should be medically trained my argument was if they hadn't taken the hypocritic hope they shouldn't know about my problems or anybody else's but red Helen says they do have to take it. I cannot possibly tell you if that is correct or not
she didn’t, she said they’re bound to the duty of confidentiality, which they will be. In any event the oath is to do with not doing harm, you’re getting very confused
Sorry i am 73 but not confused the oath is that medical professionals in this country anyway do not talk to the public about your condition not even your partner without your permission or talk about anything else about you meaning addresses phone numbers anything except to another medical professional. And this about the receptionists if they are bound by confidentiality then they must have taken some oath and as i say and have said previously confused or not i honestly don't know the truth of what receptionists are bound by. You have your opinion i have mine. I have given a nd helped people all my life and my point, argument or whatever you want to call it is that me and my wife are approaching our mid seventies and needing more help than ever, particularly in medical concerns and we are not getting it.so sorry if you don't agree with me but that is your perrogerative
It has nothing to do with difference in opinion. you are alleging that all GPs are lazy / need to get off their backside I think was your phrase. You are completely misguided on this point. If you’re not receiving adequate healthcare then you’re pointing the finger in entirely the wrong place.
No you get get off your left wing horse i am saying the majority of gps are not doing what they are getting good money from and basically most of them like most of the country are still blaming covid . Yes covid was a horrible thing and pray to god we don't get it as bad again. But the rest of the country are trying to get over it and get back to as normal as possible and please read my entries properly i keep saying your views are your perrogerative and mine are mine
The Hippocratic Oath was written in the 5th century BC. It certainly has nothing to do with patient confidentiality, telephone numbers or addresses. "I will use my power to help the sick to the best of my ability and judgement; I will abstain from harming or wronging any man by it.”
left wing horse? No idea where you’ve got that from. so you genuinely believe that gps are lazy? ( which is what you said). your views may well be your prerogative, but they are ill informed & factually incorrect.
