Not slating him mate. I thought he tried something different. It wasn't my cup of tea but I just wish we'd had a go because we wasted 74 minutes defending for nothing.
Different tactics, we hoofed ball forward last year and ball got hoofed back so helik and Anderson could win headers, can remember all of us saying how midfield never kicked ball, now our weaknesses are being caught out, mainly that the players we have cant defend properly, cant block crosses, even saw heliks non defending last year against Swansea in 1st leg of play offs
Looking at it objectively . The manager got it right for most of the match , he obviously wanted to stop the rot and the loser mentality. Then we should get a free kick and the daft buggers switch off again and the old mentality emerges. The trouble with playing like that though is you have to break and hurt the opposition and our forwards would struggle the break Humpty fking Dumpty, in fact let’s be honest they struggle to pass to each other never mind get a shot away. Personally I would be prepared to put up with the defensive stuff if it meant we could start picking up points but for that the players need to find some heart!
Won't even have any derbies next season ,Donny will go down and Rotherham and massives will come up !
Swansea passed it around us with ease. We gave them far too much space to strut around, playing it out from the back, instead of getting close to the player about to receive it. Stats at half time were 19%-81%, the overall stats say it all, 20% - 80%. which tells me Asbaghi did nothing to change things, or was he content with that? It was really piss poor tonight, the amount of time and space on the ball we gave them was hard to take. And when we had the ball, the passing was rushed and often inaccurate, lacking so much composure, giving the ball away cheaply. But once again, the time they were given was very poor tactics for me.
Wasn't all bad, in fact first half he was fine. Mind you Swansea were very poor and kept falling over or kicking the ball out of play.
Needs to be playing with someone like Mowatt to bring him on. It’s cruel playing him without an experienced player to help him on how important the mundane parts of the game. Without that I’d say we can’t afford the luxury of playing him. On his brief appearances Hondermarck looks way more ready for the first team.
Glad you mentioned Hondermarck. He's our last remaining decent midfielder. Needs to play on Saturday. When I saw his cameo v Stoke and his performance v Middlesbrough I thought we've unearthed a gem there. Use him or lose him.
It’s harsh to say given the new coach has had such a short time with the players, but I’m struggling to think of a worst first game for a new coach. Certainly for a long time. And we’ve had a lot of new coaches!
I’ll give Poya the benefit of the doubt, but I’m struggling to find how he’s gonna turn it around. I almost feel sorry for him. In fact, he’s never played the game professionally, but might as well put himself in the starting 11, cos surely he can’t be any worse. The players/squad for whatever reason this season are just not good enough,,, period. We won’t spend in January unless we sell , and who’s coming knocking on the door for any of our player's. Collins has been the only decent performer week in week out for me. Anybody else, I couldn’t give hoots if they left cos they’ve certainly not added anything so far this season. The whole set-up top to bottom seems to be a reight shambles, it’s embarrassing.
I think that he is not wrong to start by trying to make us difficult to beat and, for all their possession, Swansea had not one shot on goal in the first half. Okay, we only had one all game. The worrying thing for me is that we haven't re-established the high intensity press from the front players and through the team. It was that which forced opposing teams into errors and gave us the opportunity to counter quickly. We stood off too much for most of the game and Swansea could stroke the ball around without sufficient challenge for all but a spell of about fifteen minutes after Morris and Leya Iseka came on. Playing four at the back was right and it stymied Swansea, who had obviously set up to get Laird in down the right flank and Bidwell down the left. It worked for seventy minutes. I would put Jordan Williams to right back and try Ben Williams at left back if we are going with a back four, which i still think is a good move. They out-pressed us for almost all the game. We need some experience down the spine of the team - I wonder what Henrik Larsson is doing these days? His son plays for Sweden's U21s, so you never know. Depressingly familiar result, but good to switch structure. Just need to increase the press to impose ourselves and speed up the one-touch passing in training. Oh! And practice shooting as well. Could still be a long old season.
