My theory: With only two days' coaching before his first match, the manager has gone to the players (let's say just Woodrow, because he's the captain) and said "Look, what went right last season? Give that a go on Wednesday and I'll have a look and then we can build on it." It's pretty much what I'd do in his situation, and this looks an awful lot like last season to me.
We've got Dave Benson Phillips in midfield. Getting his own back on football. I'd rather Woodrow taking set pieces.
