Another to add to the list in South Yorkshire - pensioners and diasabled people having to pay to use the trains.
No-one resents people who have bettered themselves, just people who have received hand me downs for doing nothing. It's fantastic that people can better themselves, but surely kids should have to work hard too, otherwise the next generation will just be lazy if everything is handed to them. But to answer your question - personally, I don't think you should tax people for dieing no. I'm just playing devil's advocate and trying to see it from another angle.
It's about leveling out the playing field. We take some (not all) the money from those rich enough to afford to spare some when they have died. We use that money to pay for education for example, this allows anyone to get the skills required to get a job or to get into further/higher education. If we don't do that we have to raise the money some other way and the richest keep getting richer and richer and richer and they use those riches to bend government in their way to perpetuate their elite status. Then it ends in revolution. Is that what you want, cos that's what will happen?
Another thing about people getting rich from inheritance and not hard work of their own, is they become out of touch with normal working class people and start voting for policies that allow them to keep hold of the money, whilst at the same time making it harder for poorer people to get richer. The ironic thing about that is that they only got rich in the first place because a poor person worked hard for them, at a time when it was possible as they weren't having to pay equal taxes. People quickly forget their roots.
Abolishing inheritance tax is a very tory move surely, the threshold is pretty high and there's plenty of ways to get round it if you're at the lower end. I'm a fan of inheritance tax its a progressive tax as all taxes should be
Thats usually because it leads to an unfair society. If you work hard you should be able to give your children a good education that should enable them to make their own mark in the worldif they are good enough, not get a living as useless lumps cos their parents had money.it should be survival of the fittest not richest.imo
As I said not anecdotal evidence. It in research I did in key marginals discussing matters of political interest with voters of all ages in key marginals inheritance tax was not mentioned at all despite things like playgrounds and fishing licensing getting a mention... When the Rowntree foundation publish later in the year I will pass it along to you.
Here's the headlines from another report I worked on. You'll need to refer to the actual report rather than the Guardian's headlines for details on political priorities. In terms of the stuff I did for Rowntree it is scheduled for publication in late summer and will probably garner some publicity so have a read. There's no mention of any interest in inheritance tax though... http://www.theguardian.com/uk/2013/jan/13/immigration-british-society-biggest-problem
So basically just because nobody wants it and it us an issue for concern for a very small minority it'll still be a vote winner... Oh aye... They would be better off offering free fishing licences now that would be a vote winner. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
The working man has every right to pass on what they wanto thier Beneficiaries You are a communist What else do you.want steal our fresh air
Yeah you're were working so hard that you've developed a civility bypass and choose to abuse someone posting an opinion. Perhaps you can pass on your manners to the next generation too. What a delight they'll turn out to be. Whilst there may be no point in your having an idiot of the highest order further address you, perhaps you could consider: 1. The inherited wealth of the upper classes and their manipulation of the system affords them the opportunity to perpetuate a system that is clearly unfair and disadvantageous to the kids who should be able to get a better shot at climbing the greasy pole (e.g. the bright kid in Barnsley) 2. IHT is payable at 40% over 650k - so you can pass on the rest. Or pass it on before you go. 3. While you are working hard, others just live in the right area and amass wealth by sitting in their front room somewhere in or near London. 4. Lots of people work hard to provide their family with a better life, but simply don't get paid enough.
Do you understand the difference between wanting something, asking for it, and prioritising it? I'm not saying it's the most important thing in the world, only that it would be welcomed by many. You are probably right regarding fishing licenses.
Quite funny this post It does not mention that UKIP will abolish 1. Workers rights 2. NHS 3. Min wage 4. Maternity pay 5 . Equal pay for women 6 . lower rate of income tax etc etc etc .................how any idiot can vote for em is beyond me
