Another cracker. The tension in the russian roulette scene gets the old ticker pumping. Born on 4th July another good un. Jacobs Ladder too (kind of war related).
Battle Of Britain and The Dambusters. Both pretty tame when you set them up against the likes of Private Ryan but both iconic in their own right.
didn't they end up dubbing the name of one of the pilots dogs on dambusters because nowadays it isn't politically correct. sure i've seen it somewhere
u571 was on other night, good un, though anyone would the yanks won all the wars alone, black hawk down good too

Not very blokey, them. Some excellent stuff though and a couple of new ones for me to look up, thanks. I sat through The Sorrow and the Pity once at the NFT. My arse wasn't feeling very blokey by the end either.
Also "The Guns of Navarone" is a glaring omission - it's just about on a par with "When Eagles Dare" and both are based on Alistair MacLean novels.
Another MacLean adaption worth a mention is "Ice Station Zebra" though your moving into 'Cold War' territory there but it's still gets watched no matter what. Other unmissable war films though not 'blokey' would be "The Bridge on the River Kwai" and "Lawrence of Arabia" both truely amazing films. Finally - I'm on a role here - did anyone mention "The Dirty Dozen" - that has got to be the ultimate 'blokey' war film. My personal favorites are "The Thin Red Line" and "Deer Hunter" but I wouldn't consider either especially 'blokey' but then I'm not particularly a 'blokey' bloke.
That is correct. Guy Gibson had a black labrador called N***** that died on the day before the famous raid. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/******_(dog)
A Bridge Too Far = awesome film with a music score to match It was the 'Saving Private Ryan' of its time - I remember my dad went to see it as the cinema when it came out and was shocked with how graphic it was, you get worse scenes on Countryfile now
