This would make for a fascinating last game and would be typical of the season really. Talk about excitement in the stands if this were to happen! I know it's a load of ifs and buts but here's my prediction for what it's worth. - Leicester will draw with Watford at home on Friday, leaving Hull requiring a point from Oakwell - which they'll get. 1-1. Blackburn will undoubtedly lose on Sat to CP but after tonight's result they're probably already safe. Blackpool will win or draw with Derby at home, meaning they're safe. Huddersfield need to beat Bristol C and will do so. Notts will beat Millwall as they need the points for play-off chances. Sheffield Wednesday will go to P'Boro needing a point for safety - which they'll get. Burnley will go to Wolves needing a point for safety - which they'll get. Millwall will lose to CP as well due to play-off push etc. For the reasons I have stated, I believe this set of results to be fairly likely. This leaves ourselves, P'Boro, Wolves and Millwall still fighting relegation on the final day. Unfortunately Wolves and P'Boro then both play teams already guaranteed a play-off place and will probably win. Millwall also play a team with nothing to play for and only need a point for survival - which they'll get. This of course, regardless of our result against Hudders leaves us relegated on goal difference. OK, so Wolves and P'Boro might not get results against the respective play-off teams as they might be too good for them. However, our result against Hudders isn't exactly guaranteed either. They'd be playing to send us down in this scenario - they'll be well up for it. Due to all this, a win against Hull on Saturday is an absolute must IMO. COYR!!!
???? er, We are second bottom, not bottom, so we are already above one team. We have to climb above 2 other teams to get out of the drop zone. or am I missing something?
I didn't say we have to overtake three more teams, I said we had to finish above three teams (ie 4th bottom) in order to stay in this league.
OK - I get that you are suggesting that in response to the post that Hudds won't score 7 and would stay below us if we win them both. But I agree with Journo - if we win them both, then it would be a total freak for us to then go down on 57 - virtually impossible to imagine. Both posh and wolves would have to win both to stay above us, and a few other teams would have to have picked up points as well. If we win both, we stay up in my eyes, no question. Bit of an academic argument though cos it's such a tall ask for us to win both. It would be unreal if we managed it.
I agree that if we win both we'll almost certainly stay up. We'll definitely finish above Bristol City and Huddersfield if we do that, unless, as Wellsie suggested, Huddersfield beat Bristol City by a rugby score. All I was saying is that it is possible to win both and still be relegated. Wolves and Peterborough would need to win both games, while Burnley, Blackpool, Wednesday and Millwall would all need a victory or two draws. Blackburn and Ipswich just need a point. It's extremely unlikely all that will happen, but it is possible. We could go down on 57 points.
We are agreed then - theoretically possible, but no chance in practise - can you imagine going down on 57 - hell fire, that's only 5 wins from the play offs in most seasons!! Can't wait for Saturday now - I just want to get on with it
I dont have much hope to be honest, but this division is so unpredictable, anything can happen. Blackburn are safe now surely, so its down to us even more now instead of having to rely on other teams results.
haha this is great init? what an amazing season? i honestly think we will get 3 points on saturday against hull as i'm sure you have realised from watching barnsley that we always play really well against the top teams? so, on that score we got no chance against hudds lol? seriously though i believe we will only need a point from hudds if we can beat hull? so lets pack oakwell out on sat and all be positive and cheer our team on to glory as it will be a lot easier to keep flicker and majority of our players if we are in championship next season? doom and gloomers need not attend on sat
The fans for a long time have been negative towards the players ect... this time since Christmas fans are behind the team this will always have a physiological advantage when it comes to winning games. so evident at forest on Saturday. in return the players are putting a shift and a half in with some minor blips (fatigue) While fans are urging the players on and complimenting them when they play well we have an advantage on the teams around us who may suffer doubts and not perform as well. everything to look forward to, some tasty matches.with the tactics right and the players doing what they have to ....we have to do our bit sing loud and proud, encourage, and be part of the team.
