Ever been to Arran? There's an old man there who lives in a hole in the ground and goes around and around. Well that's what Nik Kershaw says.
We never got to the Inner Hebrides as the ferry from Uig to Tarbe(r)t was out. Lewis was very interesting 90 miles long and the 3rd biggest of the British Isles pop. 22000 (even though I was sitting at the back I was paying attention). Lots of big hills, bleak moors (very WutheringHeights) and great coastal scenery and beaches. They still cut peat for fuel on the island. The Callanish Standing Stones are really impressive and worth a visit. Confusingly the Butt of Lewis is at the top of the island rather than the bottom. The Jacobite steam train to Mallaig is worth travelling on but the destination is nothing to write home about. The downside of this is that it is very "Harry Potterified. We were on a guided tour and there was a lot of travelling. The two journeys on Scotrail travelled through great scenery. Glasgow - Fort William (the worst football team in the Highland League) was very good as was the journey from Inverness to Edinburgh. We also took in a boat trip to see the Forth Bridge but disappointingly there were only three.
Once saw a stag at the side of the road into Mallaig, I couldn't believe how big it was - Wednesdayesque
Thanks for that geography and history lesson Didcot. All sounds quite interesting. Like I said I’ve never been out that way. I was proposing to take a trip to Skye last year before covid hit. My daughter has done the flying to Barra bit where you land on the beach. Now that would be an experience.
Believe it or not this was Broughty Ferry esplanade yesterday. 3 fawns having a wander in the sun. Amazing sight.
I've gone flying on many a beach, usually between 3:30 and 5 pm (in the old days when pubs used to shut)
Re Jim Bowen. I can concur re the bad language. It’s a fault of many. But may not define em as a bad person. The problem when I saw him in stand up. Is that he used every profanity possible when totally irrelevant to every joke/story. ( sometimes a profanity emphasises a joke/tale. And for that reason is acceptable to myself.) Termed a blue comedian. Billy Pearce is one who knows when and why to use profanities. in his adult shows. Never. When it’s a family show. The worst I’ve ever seen bar none. in a family environment was Dick Emery. I can only assume he was p1ssed on that occasion. Cos no one in their right mind would have spouted such stuff.
