I was going to go for something along these lines. Remember him fondly for the football we played, but with that squad, not getting promotion would’ve been failure.
Craig Davies was poor. Capable of scoring the occasional beauty but his first touch & hold up play was terrible. Never known a forward lose the ball as much. The biggest reason we stayed up in the great escape season was because we flogged him & had a proper strike partnership who could get us up the pitch instead.
Brain Howard only played well up until beginning of January. Anderson da silva gets in Barnsley best ever Midfield technically levels above anything before and after
Yes. We played more football first half today and I was hopeful... but much of the second half was about Collins time wasting and hoofing it into touch or to their keeper. Such a pity as when we do try and play football we look so much better.
Watson was OK , which about sums up most keeperd we have had since I started watching in 1984. Keepers who cant play the backpass well irritate me the most and we have so many "shot stoppers" who cant come for a cross or save anythinh that isnt directly at them.
That was way before my time, but you've just made me realise that I've always pronounced his surname in a French accent in my head. How was it pronounced?
We've just won 6 in a row and have a real chance at promotion to the premier league and you would rather have Jose Morais? Is that actually what you're saying?
This style of debating is unfair. You infer that your opponent supports something unpopular and then ridicule him for it. (note than I am also employing the same popular style)
1.Danny Wilson did a poor job in the premier league for us. The results picked up when he made adjustments in the second half of the season - but it was blindingly obvious after about five or six games, probably less, that we were too naive, too open, and liable to concede several per game. Had he reacted in a more reasonable time we’d have flown past 40 points. 2.Dave Bassett’s team that was nearly promoted wasn’t actually a particularly good team. It had a special player in Hignett, a good centre forward, but a lot of the defence and goalkeeper could have turned out for the dog and duck 3.Cauley Woodrow is grossly overrated by many on this forum 4.Not an insignificant proportion of our supporters, particularly a decent number of those who regularly go away, are neanderthalic, ill-educated pillocks 5.The West Stand isn’t just in need of replacement, it’s an abomination of the highest order, a millstone around the club’s neck and is an inexcusable embarrassment; and has been so for two or three decades
Not at all. I was just clarifying exactly what was meant and used Morais because the thread started with someone saying he wasn’t that bad. It’s 100% how that conversation would have gone were you having it in person.
Funny that, one of my unpopular opinions is that Anderson Da Silva is one of the most overrated players we've had. Never really understood the hype.
I’m saying I want a Barnsley team to play football. Like we did in pockets in the first half. I enjoyed some of that first half. I thought Woodrow and Chaplin tried to get it down a bit and we were all the more threatening for it. When we play the new sport of breathless murder hoofball, I completely zone out. It doesn’t even do ugly justice, it’s horrible and skill less. i’ve genuinely never disliked how a Barnsley side tries to play more than this. As I say, I enjoyed good parts of the first half, then second half we just decided we’d keep kicking the ball anywhere combined with Collins’ shocking timewasting. If we try play like we did in parts first half, I’m aboard, the rest, nar.
Yeah I read it back and sounded wrong his 1st spell was the best football I've ever witnessed from a barnsley side.
