I think it perhaps understimates both those players worths but yeah i agree. But what i was getting at generally is that I can see a vision in a midfield or Hammill, Colace, De silva and JCR. I think that vision would work IF it translates to passing football for long periods of games and if we make a good start to the season with the fans behind them. As soon as we are desperate for points you can understand a different formation and to be fair late goals aside we did pretty well with different formations for different teams during the run in

    If he does...

then we have to accept that but also expect that if we have another bad start to next season that PC will pull the trigger...

I think that though is one of the...

main things that pisses people off...Davey shitting it about playing the mighty Swansea at home and changing our system to "combat" them....

Definately mate and he does do odd things! I'm not sure what the right thing to do is. I love the fact we have stability and I think we have had very bad luck this season and could have concievably had another 10 points with Hume and more luck. if we;d been 10 points higher up the league we might have been more adventurous and then get yet more points. I also appreciate thats a lot of ifs! All i try and do is look at the football side and not whether I like Davey as a person or not. But i do think he is on a hiding to nothing because some will be on his back if we;re top after 10 games

My biggest concern about SD ....

Is that he has lacked ambition for the club this season. What were the targets for the season? Just 'to finish higher than last season' is not going to motivate an excellent squad of players for a club of this size, nor is it going to enthuse the fans, who attend with the prospect of seeing at least a degree of success on the pitch. SD set himself and the team very modest targets for the club this season and then resoundingly failed to reach even the low levels set. This is not how to motivate players, especially ones, several of whom are in mid-career and who will want to feel they have achieved something in their playing life. Last season had the Chelsea and Liverpool successes and that was a significant high for everyone. I do think that this is the best squad of players we have had for some years and SD must take credit for getting them in - but they have way under-achieved this year.

SD must surely be expected to respond to PC in some public way - how else can the fans be won over? Maybe we would give him a further chance if he were to set the target of reaching the play-offs in 2009-2010 and enthuse, convince and motivate everyone - players, staff and fans - that we CAN do it. In reality, it doesn't matter if we don't get there, but it is important to everyone to believe that we are going to try and it gives the fans a cause in which to support both SD and the players on the pitch. He needs to convince me that he is not setting out each match with a plan to avoid the fear of failure and replace it with one which indicates that he believes in the expectation and conviction that we are going to win. You can then support the aim, even if we fail, but commit ourselves fully on the pitch to achieve the aim. I think the fear of failure has got to the players and I do think it starts with the way they are prepared for games, as well as some of the cycles of matches which we have drawn when winning, or lost when drawing - oh! for a Craig Hignett, who never gave up the belief that draws could become victories and defeats, draws.

SD has been at his best when facing strong opposition, which we were not expected to defeat. It shows where his mind-set is. No more sitting on 1-0s for half a game, please, SD! No more conceding possession after a good half hour and a lead taken (or not). No more only starting to attack in away games once we have gone a goal down!

Public statement in reply, please, SD - for the sake of the fans and their realistic expectations. We don't expect to reach the Premiership, but we expect an ambitious manager, who sets challenging, but realistic targets for the team and is like a dog with a bone about achieving them. We cannot plan for another season of mediocrity.
