So the lesson is If you want to start a "hot thread" (on the BBS flat thread view) don't mention football just have a dig at a state-pampered octagenarian. 1789, a bad year for beer but . . .
RE: Figures to prove that? The monarchy cost the tax payer about £36million last year. I've no idea how much tourism revenue was generated as a result of the Royals but i bet it's into the billions each year.
RE: Figures to prove that? But theres no way you can prove how much of that would be lost if you got rid of the monarchy.
People who hold a view that disagrees with yours on a single subject? ? No just the fact that you see just the negatives with the Queen. There are many like you and it bores me!
Well, i'd shake your hand if i met you and you mean nothing to me! E.I.Addio would give you a blow job and he says you're a wonker!
It's probably a lot more than £36m, although do tourists come to the UK and visit Royal attractions hoping to see the Queen? Some probably do. Of course, there is a whole other side to this debate that in the 21st Century when we supposedly are striving for an egalitarian society, how can we have a "Family" that history has deigned as better than any other in the country, and that we continue to "serve" a monarch and all that comes with it. (ie the land owning landed gentry, hunting etc etc)
I'd shake your hand... as common courtesy. I'd shake the Queen's hand too, for the same reason. I just don't believe she's any better than me or actually deserves any special praise above you, me, EI Addio or anyone else for that matter. There are not many people I would not extend a common courtesy to. One would have been her mother.
Yes, a single subject I expressed a view on a single subject and your response was "People like you irritate me". What you possibly meant was "that view you've expressed irritates me". Which I would not have objected to in any way. And to suggest that I just see the negatives is a wild assumption on your part. I've reached the conclusion that on balance I'd rather we didn't have a monarchy. It's far from cut and dried and there are definitely positive aspects to having one, I'd just personally rather we didn't. Or maybe not, maybe it's me that irritates you. I tell you what, if it's the latter then my name's next to all my posts so the option is yours. But if it's just the Queen thing then I'm sorry my view irritates you but it's just an opinion.
Farewell to the crown Poacher come with his poacher's gun Out in the woods to shoot someone "My lord your time has come" Right between the eyes! Fell his master not by chance Away with pomp and circumstance Come join our merry dance To the rhythm of goodbye Farewell the jewel crown Farewell the velvet gown Watch it all come tumbling down Goodbye to the crown Goodbye to the crown Goodbye to the King of Nothing, really Wave of a hand, not a life of Riley Part Nazi, part King Billy Goodbye to the crown Goodbye to the dear old mum Mummified on gin and rum Smile and wave and just play dumb Goodbye to the crown Goodbye to the media whore And all the pious work for the poor And all the faces that she wore Goodbye to the crown Goodbye to the royal We And all its famous pedigree Let's put this dog to sleep Goodbye to the crown
wel history seems to be alive and well in France and other places.. without a monarchy its no defence of monarchy to say "it brings in money" its merely a political view that people seem to hold for or against - like capital punishment or god
