RE: It is the same with just about every player we are linked with

I have to say Stahlrost that Ronaldo is a very poor example - he was an 18 year old playing top division football and other clubs were after him - that's why he cost so much

From what we have learnt about him I cannot see one positive thing about him to make me think he will cut it in the Championship

If Patrick Cryne has any sense I hope he vetoes this transfer - for our sakes and the player's

What the hell happened to him?

THAT is not the same player we have at Oakwell. If you look at the third clip he beats the keeper and actually gestures to the fans before he slides the ball home.

Agree with Ronaldo - poor example

If I was a player considering joining Barnsley, a few minutes on here would put me right off. Players who have never been seen or heard of are slagged off before they have been within 1000 miles of Oakwell, never mind played a game. This guy's credentials do not look good but as Ryhill Tyke says what chance do we have when that Akinfeckwit is vallued at £500k?

As I said before, if we do sign him let's give the lad a chance. After all, even at the level he is playing he surely can't be any worse than what we have in the squad now.

If you want my honest opinion, we should stick that Jamal Adam lad in. No point in having junior players if they never play then get farmed off to Grimsby for nowt.

    oh dear

I missed it, although it simply goes to undermine your point. For my mind Bassett only made one really good signing in Shipperley.

Richardson was another mediocre player on high wages that contributed in no small way to our ultimate downfall.

    You're right about pricks though.

I have seen him play in Malta.

He looked good at that level, but it is only equal to our lower leagues, maybe league 1 at best.
Not all the teams are good either and he is not as good as Mifsud by a long way.
But there a a few players in Malta that could come good with the right coaching.
Maybe Bogdaovic is one of them, I hope so. Marsaxlokk are the team that the former Owls player Chris Bart Williams went to he was playing that same match I watched.

Agreed, that was his biggest mistake.

But he did get Curtis due to being big mates with Fergie (scouted for Man U). His downfall was losing the whole of the right hand side of the team when we didn't get promoted, Curtis, Higgy and Eaden. That said, weren't we only about 13th when he was sacked?

There is a few decent players that could come good, but there is a hell of a lot of dross.

Hope this is one of the good ones.

I can't see it being as good as league 1

its the 50th best league in Europe of 53 - based on the top division

The Championship probably the sixth best league in Europe

He won't be able to cut it

    Simplistic and unfair

How can you compare the situation that Hendrie or Bassett had to Davey?

Hendrie massively under performed with the resources and players at his disposal. He was a dreadful manager. I have every respect for him as a player - I'll always be grateful for the contribution he made on the pitch - but he was a dreadful manager. His ability to attract players was about cash - at that time we were more wealthy than we have ever been.

Bassett knows where to get a good deal, and I don't doubt that his reputation for success and promotion is bound to attract players to some extent, but again - it was about the money to pay wages. When we lost at Wembley the wheels came off financially, and Hignett had to go. Nobody stays for the reputation of the manager.

Davey has got a pitiful budget to work with in comparison to Bassett and Hendrie - and for those moaning about why we're not signing proven quality at this level, it's not rocket science - we haven't got the fecking money. I'm sure that Davey would love to get a cheque book out and solve his problems by signing proven talent, but he can't, so he has to shop around and try and get lucky. To be fair to him, he has been quite the opposite - Ferenczi was an exceptional signing until an injury took a yard of pace off him. Hume was an exceptional signing until some thuggish **** nearly killed him. For what he has to work with, Davey deserves an awful lot more credit. Remember - a quality striker is the hardest thing to sign when you've got **** all cash.
