I once made it all the way back from the south side of Nottingham on a space saver. Had a blow out on the way back from the Bristol City away game.

Take it steady, don't exceed the speed limit given on the wheel & you should be ok. Get a proper one on though as soon as physically possible.

    Or get it repaired

When I had a blow out I swapped to the space saver, went to the nearest garage and they repaired it for £7

Erosion. Please elaborate? I was told by the guys at Central Tyres in Rotherham when i had the tyres fitted approx 6weeks ago that this was a natural chemical reaction between alloy and steel.

Repair wasn't an option for me

    The tyre was totally shredded.

I discovered 2 things that night, 1 adrenalin works better than caffeine at keeping you awake & 2 adrenaline is brown & smelly!

I put some tyre weld in last night to repair it but obivousley this didnt work. Took it to the garage today and they said because i had use tyre weld then they couldnt repair the damage. Only had a small screw that wnet through the damn thing aswell.

Erosion as in one or the other may be wearing away due to the adverse weather we experience.

I could be wrong, because I haven't seen it.

Dont know. All i am saying is qwhat the mechanic told me. It just sailed through the MOT so if erosion was an issue then surely his would have been picked up.

I honestly can't remember the guidlines for an MOT off the top of my head, mate. I'm sure it's fine if it passed.

Why are the pressures on these space saver wheels a lot higher than those on normal wheels

    Probably because they are smaller...

a smaller footprint on the ground = less area. Less area carrying the same load (~1/4 weight of car) = more pressure.

You want to get that stuck wheel sorted though. What happens if you get a puncture on that?

Rubber mallet will sort it out. HIt the alloy from behind then before i refit i will clean the area then apply some copper slip to prevent this from happenng again.
