When have I said I don’t have a viewpoint? I may have said that besides this election I have absolutely no interest in politics. I have also said that I wouldn’t vote for Trump if I were American because I have never bothered to vote in a British election, so I can’t think I would bother if I lived over there either.

My ‘viewpoint’ is that I believe that Donald Trump will win this Presidential race and that is unchanged from my viewpoint when we first started this discussion about 3 months ago. If I’m wrong I will pay over my £20 to BIADS and move on to talking about something else. I certainly won’t lose any sleep over it though because it’s American politics and I’m neither American nor interested in politics.

Nay, Mr Casual! He can't win it. It has already happened. He lost. He can stage a military coup, or engage in some other unlawful and anti-democratic action. But he can't win the election - that one's gone! :)

And BTW, as regards any monkey-business tomorrow (Wednesday) the Mayor of Washington has called in the National Guard to keep order in the Capital. So no joy there, either!

IF this is true; and I don’t necessarily believe it is.

If you genuinely have no interest in politics or prior knowledge. Then this has been an interesting experiment in misinformation.

That you have ‘accidentally’ fallen into the alt right QAnon bulls hit web and can’t tell the difference between truth and reality. IF it’s true that you’re actually well educated, but that you can’t see that this is absolute nonsense, that’s fairly profound.

Interesting doc on the tellybox last night about Fake News. It’s worth a watch on IPlayer (you might even spot where some of your ‘sources’ have been getting their ‘info’ from).

To move away from the Trump insanity for a while, big day today in Georgia.

Dems currently look favourite to take each individual seat, but the republicans still favourites to control the senate (because the dems NEED both seats while the GOP only need one or the other)

I think the democrats have the special in the bag, but the regular id put as a toss-up. From talking to people in GA all the momentum is on the dems side, hopefully they have enough.

If they take the senate it’s very likely they’ll approve DC statehood which will get them 2 more senate seats 100%. They’ll then have a good majority and can actually achieve something.

It’s also likely they’ll pursue Puerto Rico statehood, which will probably get them 2 senate seats also, but they’re more of a tossup going forward.

Could realistically have 52 states in 2 years time.

On Radio 4 just now they referred to a good number of young first-time eligible voters participating in these run-offs who are predicted to be mainly democrat voting. I hope they're right.

On the statehood changes though, wouldn't the numbers mean the republicans would attempt to filibuster them out?

There’s over 120,000 that have already voted in Georgia that didn’t in November. Disproportionately African American. It will be interesting anyway.

On your other point, yes. It’s likely they will try and filibuster it away, but there’s also talk of the democrats getting rid of the filibuster so we’ll have to see.

2022 looks even more promising for the dems. There’s 20-21 Republican seats up for grabs compared to 13-14 Democrat (depending on how the GA special goes) and all the democrat incumbents except Arizona are extremely safe seats. On the Republican side North Carolina, Florida, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania all have a chance of flipping and possibly Indiana although I’d say that’s less likely. And Georgia could flip which ever way it goes this year.

Statistically, my qualifications put me in the top 0.1% of the world population and I do genuinely have no interest in politics or prior knowledge of the US election system.

I appreciate your concern but I am more than intellectually capable of discerning for myself what information is reliable or otherwise. I happen to believe that the opposite applies to your good self. I will look forward to having this debate with you next week.

He’s in the top 0.1% of the world population for qualifications. He says.

He also says this gives him the ability to realise what sources are reputable, which is proven to be false.
