They brought molotovs, IEDs, guns, murdered a police officer and brought zip ties with the apparent intention to take hostages and you consider them to be mild because they weren’t as successful as they’d hoped?
Their failure to execute their plan does not make them fine.
Had the officials not been evacuated in time, these people would have murdered them and there is no question.

I don’t agree. People have to take responsibility for their own actions and decisions; they’re not Children.
The tragedy for the US will be if Trump is not held accountable for his.

Not die if they weren't armed and weren't going to harm others no. Storming a government building armed ( or unarmed) is always going to be a risk to your life though .

It makes me smile every day.
Twitter is all about what you choose to read.

in my Twitter feed there’s less tw@s than I see on here daily. My feed is mostly comedians, some musicians, sports.

I agree on being held accountable. But I don’t agree that that should come in the form of death that we laugh at as there’s different levels of taking responsibility and types of actions. Like I said, there were criticisms the other day because murderers, in some cases absolutely horrific, were signed off on the death penalty. Doesn’t feel right to laugh at one death and want to save another, especially when those who died might not have been the ones posing any risk.

I think overall though everyone’s agreeing on 99% of this in terms of how bad it was and people being prosecuted.

You were here the other day spreading the same conspiracy theories about paedophiles that incensed these terrorists.

We have indeed got a different moral compass. And I’m proud to say that.

Pulling no punches there! Is it that bad on here?

If you use Twitter regularly, in terms of tweeting and liking things, with a decent following, you’ll have all sorts come in your feed that might not be relevant. Even if you follow predominantly normal, interesting people and things.

I don’t think you understood my post. But to be clear. If you go to an event with the intention of, at best, seeking to cause physical harm to elected politicians and, at worst, take part in an insurrection, then if you are hurt or even killed, that’s your responsibility. I’m not laughing about it, simply making the point.

Ah. You’re right I did misunderstand it as I thought the discussion was about whether that death is something that should be laughed at. You’re 100% right, and I think that viewpoint around taking responsibility should be consistent across all troublemaking world over

An idiot accidentally tasing himself in the balls as part of a redneck coup is a bit funny. I'd have preferred it if he didn't die, I'm not saying he deserved it, but the circumstances are comical. The state executing its subjects isn't.

I find it quite easy to avoid the worst of Twitter, and wherever I see ugly stuff it’s surrounded by tweets drowning it out.

This is the only online account I have that’s ever been threatened with violence.

There must be something in that, I’ve had an online presence for 20 years including running a business linked to my online presence (so if someone felt the urge they could easily have turned up at my door).

I use Twitter a lot. Too much sometimes. But it’s a wealth of information on things like music, sport and even for work. I can’t escape the misinformation that spreads so fast and the way some people so easily speak to others. Blows my mind the tweets people write.

Humour is a personal thing and I'm not going to judge someone on what they do or don't find funny.

My problem with what happened is that there were some total fruitcakes who went into Washington with the intention of violence. There were others, whipped up by Trump's rhetoric, genuinely believing that the election was rigged, that went to protest and show support for their candidate. I think they're spectacularly naive, I don't like their politics, or their judgement, but they're not criminals. Or they weren't prior to yesterday. Some of these found themselves in a situation beyond their control, that they never envisaged happening. Maybe the ones hurt were the perpetrators, the criminals with damage and destruction on their minds. But life has a habit of not working out like that. The fish out of water, wondering how the hell they got here and what on earth they were thinking tends to be the most vulnerable.
