    Anyone doubting the conscientiousness with which Obama undertook the presidency should have a read of his newly-published memoirs (volume one). It's one thing to disagree with his policies, but his application could not be surpassed. The range of problems dealt with is mind-boggling, and all with a level of decency, integrity and civility that seems utterly lost on his hapless successor.

    Of course not, but you can't invent all the stuff you've dealt with. That was my point, regardless of whether you agree with what he did (I do).

    Relative to the actions of his predecessor, George W. Bush, and the reckless rhetoric of his successor, Donald Trump, Obama’s foreign-policy record is a model of prudence. He did not initiate a catastrophic war of choice that cost trillions of dollars and hundreds of thousands of lives while making the world a more dangerous place. He has not started a trade war with China, or ordered U.S. troops to seize foreign oil fields or to perpetrate acts of torture or to kill family members of terrorists.

    I think you're confusing me with someone else. All I've ever done is offer valid alternative views. Haven't criticised anyone, haven't made anything up, and just discussed that there is actually an opposing side that doesn't make some of the wild claims on here as true as people try to portray them. Not everyone as there's a few really valid contributors in this thread who's opinion and thoughts I appreciate, providing it doesn't go down the 'Trump bad. Everything else good' route.

    No. The audio I listened to was an exchange between the 'One Republican' and whoever chairs the senate. Hence me wanting to share something to not be accused of making it up.

    I think you'd expect more Drone strikes wouldn't you? They're far more common today vs. ten years ago. I'm not wanting an argument here but where one person shares x article another person can share y (https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2017/jan/09/america-dropped-26171-bombs-2016-obama-legacy)

    Agree. But I wasn't commenting on what anybody said about the other, just that comparing golf time for one vs. the other is not a valid reflection or argument for one worked harder than the other. It's could easily just be a reflection of how they choose to spend free time.

    If I’m honest, there’s no US politician I have too much respect for, the Dems are almost as bad as the Republicans.

    But, as you say, Trump is another level entirely.

    I'd have probably voted Republican if I was American. For reasons listed a dozen times within this monster thread. I'm not a Trump supporter or fan by any stretch though, and as I've admitted in this thread I wouldn't argue or debate against anyone who criticises him as it's understandable, but there's the media portrayal and the reality in my opinion. Anything positive he's done is dismissed way too easily and somehow turned in to a negative, and some of the negative things he's done are exaggerated.

    I also struggle with some of the wild general claims made about the US, which either aren't true or not representative of how Americans really feel.

    I can't stand Trump, my main reason if nothing else is his treatment of John McCain. I have read bits of his book, "Who packs your Parachute" and he deserved better treatment for what he did in Vietnam. Trump is an ignorant oaf. However, my Wife jumped down my throat when he was elected as I said I can understand why he was. She spent time in New York and still has friends who live there. However, Trump fed into the same vibe the Brexit vote did over here. In that respect, I blame Obama. He had 8 years in power and did little for the rust belt or the left behinds of blue collar America in general. Trump was the least likely person to understand them (or actually achieve anything for them) but he was different and played to disenfranchised people. To my reasoning, that level of disenfranchisement wasn't Trump's doing, it was Obama's. Trump just milked it for all he was worth

    That kind of overlooks the huge stimulus packages he had to fight for to get through, and the attempt to ensure ordinary citizens could obtain affordable health care. Also the fact that after the first mid-terms of his presidency he was facing partisan opposition from the Republicans purely because of who he was and his background.
