I’m confused about the idea of a Trump second term. That suggests America will ever have another election should he get back in the door!

It’s too difficult to call what will happen right now. Especially as Trump seems to have just lost all the Puerto Rican voters. I’d pay no attention to the polls. The exit polls, which are supposed to be the most accurate ones, had the far right nutcases winning two seats in Barnsley at the last GE and they were way wide of the mark.

Harris is not the ideal candidate, but the Democrats had forced themselves into a corner by not replacing Biden from the outset. Had they done so they could have been out of sight by now. By the time Biden was forced to drop out Harris was the only option. That said, Harris has done away better than I think any of us expected. Hopefully enough of the floaters, plus disenfranchised Republicans who want their party back, will help swing it for Harris. Will she be a perfect President? Nope. Is Biden a perfect President? Nope. But both are a mile better than the alternative.

Trump isn’t interested in being President, as in doing the work that being President entails. For him it is simply the power and prestige he craves, not least so he can avoid some of the criminal charges, settle some scores and help line his own pockets. I just find it astonishing that so many people see him as some sort of saviour. And it’s astonishing that someone who openly admits to, and has been found guilty of, sexual assault, and someone who has attempted a coup, can even be considered fit to enter the race. He should be in jail, and for a very long time. It just beggars belief that this is how low the world has sunk. But I suppose someone from the UK, after the decade we’ve just had, shouldn’t be criticising the American public.

Have a look at Project 2025. The plan is to replace all the military, and agency leadership with Trump loyalists, shut down the FBI, DoJ, Department of Education and quite a few other departments and basically dumb down America while scrapping income tax and replacing it with tariffs while simultaneously using deflation to tackle high prices. And its likely Vance will be president after 2 years so he can run the full two terms after.

The likely result from his plan with tariffs is a global recession that makes the Credit Crunch look like a snow day.

Can you explain it like I'm 5, how someone who - as a woman of Black & Indian descent - got elected as District Attorney in San Francisco, then elected as Attorney General in California, then relected, then elected as a Senator for California - to become the highest elected female ever in the country "would get laughed at on an international level" for "being so inept"?

The Americans are not sending cash to Ukraine. What they are doing is sending end-of-life military equipment and supplies to Ukraine and spending the money (in American factories) on newer, shinier military equipment and supplies.

This is helping Ukraine to keep fighting, saving the Americans a fortune to decommission these old weapons, updating their military capabilities and creating/supporting jobs in America.

The part about the US not sending money to Ukraine is just not true....US aid is undoubtedly mostly in military hardware, but they have sent billions in cash and humanitarian aid. They are the highest military equipment supplier and the second highest cash & humanitarian aid donor.

 

It's a bit different regarding international tournaments when patriotic punters stick their 20 quid on us to win.

These are markets with hundreds of millions of pounds traded on exchanges.

 

I've got a feeling it's going to be a landslide for Kamala. I don't have any evidence for it other than "twitter vibes", but I predicted the outcome of the Scottish indy ref, Brexit ref, 2016 US election and 2019 UK election. Maybe the algorithm is just spoonfeeding an echo chamber, but based on things like voter turnout I just think Americans have had enough of the Trump circus. Obama v Romney was close in the polls, I'm confident this goes the same way.

 

I hope youre right. If Trump gets in I think certain things probably happen. Putin takes Ukraine, China takes Taiwan, British exports to USA decline and recession more likely, NATO is weakened and Netanyahu is given free reign to wipe out Palestinians in Gaza. In America, big licenses given to multinationals, tax cuts for big corporations, tax rises for middle and working class Americans, opponents put in prison for political views and/or voting systems altered to make a Democratic win harder. Trump acquitted of all current charges.
If Trump loses a refusal to accept the result triggers loads of lawsuits and violence from MAGA extremists. Somebody will get assassinated in the violence.
No evidence for any of this, just what I think are some likely scenarios. I can't see Trump wanting to get involved in international affairs if it costs time and/or money and I dont think his working class supporters will be rewarded in any material sense. I think democracy is in trouble in any event.
I do think Harris will prevail myself. There are enough 'decent' Republicans (even Arnie) backing her who'll swing votes for her.
Its a pity we can't all vote!

 

Why do you think this when the last time Trump was president Russia wasn't in a full blown war with Ukraine, Israel hadn't flattened Gaza and the likes of China and North Korea weren't giving it the big one as much?

 

He likes strong leaders so he'll let them do what they want. They also know how to play him now. Just my view mate. I'm sure people will disagree with me.

 

Why the conspiracy theories? Trump has said on public record that some of the things proposed by project 2025 are 'absolutely ridiculous and abysmal'. I fervently hope that Harris wins, partly as that will be the best outcome for Britain but some of the scaremongering and misinformation around the Trump campaign is ridiculous, (it's actually ironically Trump-like). And the accusations of cognitive decline from folk who 4 years ago supported Biden is frankly laughable.

 

To be fair though mate just because Trump said it isn’t true doesn’t really mean anything, He’s not exactly renowned for his honesty.

The best way to beat him is just to let him rant remain calm and talk sensibly on all matters.
