Yes, in the crazy, fickle, unpredictable world of football management (and with a young family) Valerien would be crazy to accept an offer that will net him an extra £1-2M over the next two years. I'd be gone in a shot, and if I didn't then Lady Kaht would want to know why!
Football isn’t about numbers as BFC proved last year but finances play a massive part in success. BFC turnover around £14m, WBA around £70m BFC wages around £11m, WBA around £50m Val probably looking at a four fold pay rise and the ability to spend on new players. The grass isn’t always greener but financially this could make him. The likelihood for success at a newly relegated club is far higher than us repeating or bettering last year.
That’s fair enough, but if we’re expected to accept managers being ruthless in this way, they should expect the same from the fans. Can’t have it both ways.
He'll probably get them up and then be sacked before he has any chance of managing them in the Prem. Or else start this coming season poorly and not get time to say it's a massive club!?
He can't do much better with us than he did last season. He could easily do a hell of a lot worse, at which point his stock plummets. If he stays with us on less money he wants his head checking
I've got a feeling he'll stay. They met the release clause, the club told him they'd 'reluctantly' let him speak to them, he goes and has a word, but decides the 'project' here is unfinished and uses it as leverage to get Conway and co to part with a few quid for a player he fancies. Glass half full.
Re finances. WBA will have to pay back a share of £330m from premier league clubs. to the tv companies. Even though relegated. I also wasn't aware that parachute payments are only for 2yrs if you are relegated in the first season. Rather than 3yrs.
